I have had one or two recently, and noticed that one of them got deleted after a few days!! But as I never report spammers it was not me

But as far as I know spam messages mean the messages that are not worthy, like a publicity, a repeating meaningless thing etc, and they are not personal but when someone sends a message to us saying "hi, hello, how are you", they're rather personal, and directed at us not anyone, that counts as spam as well??? I ask because I don't know what is exactly spam.
