OK, if you say so. You're far more experienced than me

Quoting mltm: Quoting Trudy: Quoting mltm: I still think that the messages who are supposed to know someone are not always spam. If Someone look at your pic and decides to message you or just would like to know you and send you a message, he is not spamming. |
You don't consider a message with only 'hi, how are you?' - no name, no personal information, no explanation why - as spam? |
So, you wouldn't consider it a spam if he added his personal details? |
Well, the last week I got 3 identical messages (hi, how are you) from the same member. Yes, that is spam to me. Harassing? No, just unwanted. And if someone not even take time to look for my name, tell his/her own name and say why they want contact with me, I will keep reporting this as spam. And they can't look at a picture thinking I'm so nice - there is no picture of me since months on this site.

In your case, I agree it's spam.

Trudy is right this time, just imagine the same situation in reality. Proper introducing means at least something like: "Hi, I am XY, sorry for interrupting you, but I would like to get to know you, if you don't mind of course." But imagine you are sitting in a bar and a guy is approaching with "hi, how are you?", you will turn your back ("mark him as a spam"), won't you? And if he repeated that three times, you would probably call the bodyguard or a waiter to warn him ("dear admin, this member is permanently bothering me"). In fact, I would prefer to slap such a guy. Each time I get "Hi, how are you?" message, I feel as someone whistled after me on the street and shouted: "Hey, babe, how are you?"
And about their efforts to see our pics - once I got "Wow, what a sexy pic" message, and I felt very insulted because on that pic, behind me, there was my younger son - OK, half of my younger son, but it he had looked better - or had looked at all - he would see I'm a mother. (Though I wonder would it stop him.)

It is rather amusing how spammers are deleted one day and are back the same day, quite ingeniously with the same nickname plus a number!

I noticed that someone has been deleted for "stalking". Now this is a new one on me, can anyone explain exactly how you stalk someone on the internet?

I would imagine "stalking" would consist of persistently sending unwanted PMs (even if you know that person), following their every move on threads and commenting, etc.
