I think many on our forum love poetry. I read every poem on here - they are all so beautiful. I wonder if anyone writes their own poetry and if they would share it please. Maybe some people will be kind enough to translate for us too.

Any brave poets out there???

Evilhermit you made me laugh Okay I will be the first fool to post my poem -it is long - bear with it! You next evilhermit -lol - be brave!

The necklace maker.

I have a necklace inside me
strung with thoughts of you
a hundred beads on it
tell our unspoken story

Do you remember Galata?
How I resisted
but you continued relentlessly
making a bead of the moment
turning each bead into a string of events

We fell into the river of thoughts
At the bottom I found
a necklace of glass beads
worn smooth and rarer than gold
untarnished, profound, irreplaceable
invaluable - God's gift and blessing
Don't think it was not beautiful
All creation is beautiful

Perhaps it was too beautiful for you?
Perhaps someone told you it was ugly
You believed them - of course -
You could do better than this
Why have time worn glass beads
formed by God & rivers?
when there is fine gold
glittering in your future?

You'll restring necklaces to adorn
and tempt with again...
in your silver basement
perhaps you will use rubies and pearls
forget ancient glass - toss it away as rubbish
deny the flowing river, the lava of the heart
exchange it for a static predictable love
you can conquer and control
Oh - delusion delusion my friend!

I give beads too much meaning anyway
They could be worthless really
Should I throw them back to the source?
They'd become night stars glowing in the sky
to shine blessings on you
fragments of memories discarded
How easy to toss out everything
close the door and walk away
Fools do it all the time

I won't be full of hopelessness
I won't subscribe to morals and rules
I won't lie and hide my face
I won't live according to expectations
confined and always hoping
boxing my love into an ugly possesiveness
I won't turn the wheel of jealousy
How can I when existence has fallen into me?

I took these broken beads
late at night I knotted them
and restrung them with my heart
In their reflection and light
I thought of you
at your workbench, your strong hands
moving beyond string and bead
beyond everything you know
prayer beads to take us further?
Inshallah

I wear these luminous internal beads
Philosophers stones
of unconditional love
Proudly. With dignity.
Like irreplaceable diamonds
Like a river always flowing
Like pure blue sky endless
I wear these beads in God's name
And I still think of your name.

My Angel

You are my angel,
My angel from heaven.

I have missed you so much,
I have missed your smile,
I have missed your hands,
I have missed my angel.

You are my life,
You mean so much,
You are the one that made my heart go on.

I have loved you so much,
I have loved you from near,
I have loved you from far,
But I will always love you,
Since you are my angel,
My angel from heaven.

Sen benim hayatimsin
meleğim

Great forum topic! Here is a copy of the most recent poem I have written for a special someone.

Karşılaşma (The Meeting)
Jingke G. Galicha
8 November 2005

She forced her eyes to sleep with the deafening silence of the night.
Her rebellious mind keeps on flirting with memories of the future.
She tried to go out of the valley of tears and bury herself in bed
Until the night went old.. older.. older.. and older.
She finally slept after some countless attempts to wink,
Escaped from the chains of insanity, just before the morning while the wild wasn't born yet.
She walked out of her room and rushed to the calm outdoors.
This is to stop the immortal thoughts about her worried lover under the midnight sky.
He is waiting.. waiting.. and waiting 'till the break of dawn
For his lovely maiden is on her way to take him home.

Hello,
I just wrote this and want to share with you even I do not do this very often.Do not judge wery strong, it took just few minutes to wirte.I am in the mood to share. That's all.

I was guessing in my childhood, waking in the morning:where
Was the sun all night cover?
And just now I find out, that from the sky,
At the dusk, sun was going to the hearts,
To radiate at night from the eyes of lovers,
To sparkle in kisses, fervent in drunkenness,
And when time comes, it would smile sleepless
Under the kind eylids of the cradles.

YELKENSİZ GEMİ...

"Kal" deseydin, kalırdım. Demedin oysa...

Evet! Ben istedim ayrılığı, çıkmaz yollara yönelen bendim,
Kucağında bir yığın noktayla karşına çıkan bendim...
Kahretsin! Bunu neden yaptığımı bilmiyorum.
Ve senin buna nasıl göz yumduğunu...
Tıpkı balkondaki akasyaları sularken,
Fazla sudan dolayı sararacaklarını bilmediğim gibi...
Su, onun için hayat olmalıydı oysa...
Ve... Sen de benim tutunacak dalım!

Bazı þeyler vardı aramızda biliyorsun,
Olmaması gereken ama daima varolan.
Farklı uçlardaydık seninle,
Farklı mevsimleri seviyorduk, farklı zamanlarda....
Sen büyük fırtınalara vardın, bense lodostan bile ürküyordum..
Oysa başardığımız şeyler vardı her şeye rağmen,
Daha doğrusu öyle sanıyordum...
Binlerce yıldız arasında,
Ayın güzelliğini gösterebilmekti tek amacım...
Yıldızları söndürmekti... Sorunları yok etmekti...
"Bitti" deyişim öylesine bir şeydi, öylesine, sıradan, şakacıktan...
"Hayır" demeliydin!
Hatta kıyametler koparmalıydın yüreğimde,
Hendekler açmalıydın yoluma gidemeyeyim diye.
Sahip çıkmalıydın gözlerimdeki ay'a sevgimiz diye...
Beni yolumdan alıkoymalıydın...
"kal" demeliydin... Defalarca "kal" demeliydin...
Oysa, demedin...

Demedin oysa!
Bilir misin?
Kaç çığlık olup yıkıldı yüreğim giderken...
Bilir misin?
Nasıl bir cana hasretti yüreğim, yolumdan döndürecek...
Bilir misin?
Nasıl zor oldu ardıma bakmadan çekip gitmek...
'KAL' desen kalacaktım...
DEMEDİN OYSA!!!

The philosophers, poets, and wisemen, forever trying to capture the ethereal verity.
Searching for something to live for, or perhaps something to die for.
Your minds are fragile, and I made your hearts delicate,
So who am I to say, you're wasting your time.

Not so much a poem, just a few words I decided to wirte.

A chance meeting

I saw your face across the bar
it struck me in an instant
your thick dark hair
your smiling dancing eyes
your body, so intense

You mesmerised me
your aura I could feel
like a warm blanket wrapped around me
your laughter pentrated
right through to my soul

What shall I do, what can I do
your affect on me is profound
the closeness I feel
I don't want it to end
I don't want it to end

Here are 2...Not very good but I enjoyed writing them. By the way, there are some beautiful poems here from you all, it seems there are some very talented classmates

"Untouchable Man......"

Do you remember? In your vacuous heart,
That eternal moment waves tore us apart,
You moved on swiftly to address your fate,
Deserting me in this disconsolate state,
You cast a shadow over the sun,
My surreal apparition, my ethereal one....
Were you a mirage in a desert plain?
Can you feel the yearning surge through my veins?
Mesmerised by your allure, incarcerated ,lost control,
I was spiritually seduced by a man with no soul....
Sand slips through my fingers, time can't be redeemed,
I lay on the fragments of broken glass dreams,
Memories are fragile,moments we shared,
Deceitful, false gestures that told me you cared.....
You're a tattoo emblazened on this heart of mine,
Never to fade until the end of time.
I gaze at the moon, as I cry on the beach,
The moon is like you, so out of reach,
Your heart is dark, you won't understand,
You shall forever haunt me, untouchable man.......

"The One"

Laying here engulfed in the darkness,
A prisoner bound to my own fears...
The moon dances in a cradle of ebony,
What happened to those years?

Scars adorn this weary soul of mine,
A dark shadow haunts my eyes,
Who am I to fall in love?
Are all words spoken lies?

From afar it was a bed of feathers,
Now I fall onto a plane of stone,
Will I ever find the place,
To be free, where my heart finds home?

Touch my hands, feel the cold of entrapment,
Feel the spear piercing my side,
Try to read the stories emblazened,
In my eyes where desperation hides.

The candle breathes it's final light,
As the clouds blanket the stars,
My tears turn to snowflakes on my face,
As the knife twists in my heart.

I can't say why it's like this,
I can't say what I've become,
But how many times will I die a death,
Before I find "The One" ?

I enjoyed those very much.

One I wrote a while back, an attempt at humour.

You will all see me, when you feel the fear.
You all have a conscience no matter how clear.
The eyes will capture a nerve of blood heat.
The ears shall discover the drumming of heart beat.

From that moment on, you belong to me.
I'll rip through your heart, and naked you'll be.
I will feel your humanity, and steal you from you.
Your soul will be tainted, i like to think, a cold blue.

I can appreciate the innocents, as they slip inside.
I can taste the bravest, for they are afraid to die.
So sleep tight tonight, I'll be in the dreams you're creating.
And when you wake up, I'll be full and awaiting.

You can not hide, for I am the blue moon.
And if you've not visited yet, then i'll see you soon.

Goodnight

Another, more meaningful to me poem.

Do you remember the days? In our fairytale land.
I gave you my promise, while holding your hand.
We stayed away from the edge, for oh so long.
But fate was playing us, a bitter sweet song.

Soaked in desire, into despair we did fall.
Golden then broken, we had felt it all.
We'd have no more rainbows, no stars to look upon.
I'm so sorry angel, I just couldn't hold on.

We had tried so hard, but the world wasn't kind.
It had stolen my dreams, left only fear in my mind.
You know you had warned me, i should stay in the shade.
Don't cry for me darling, just bring flowers to my grave.

Don't cry for me darling, just bring flowers to my grave.

Quoting vineyards:

Dusk fell
In this dark street
An insuffarable rain
has just started
with billions of rain drops
playing a song of desperation
as they hit the cobblestones
they resonate on the forehead
then hammering on the lips
and slipping through the heart
so many billions of them
each playing the same tune
hitting all that there is
in this city of untold sins

Rain is a multitude of pains
a collective mutiny
of stampeding rain drops
they overwhelm all resistance
muffling other sounds
so to make grief prevail

dark grows darker
and the rain heavier
you crave for walking out of that night
but malice
has long smeared on your soul

Akin Ilicali

P.S. I am not used to writing poems in English I am open to criticism. Plus who can translate my poem into Turkish?

Akin your poem is poignant, beautiful and without sentimentality. I loved it!

It was so touching. You say you are not used to writing poems in English? If this is the case, I can't begin to imagine how wonderful they will be when you become "used to it"!

I hope someone can translate it for you with the care it deserves.

Another Day………………………………..Written by Delimelek

As yesterdays sorrows are fading a light of hope filters through,

Bringing with it a new dawn first kissed by a fresh morning dew.

Life seems a little brighter now, as the sunshine replaces the rain

Someone appears on the horizon of hope to help ease yesterday’s pain…

Silently you stand there watching as the river flows into the sea,

Knowing you are not ready yet to swim in the waters of uncertainty.

Slowly you start to walk away from the shore, not daring to take a risk

For fear of loosing your heart to soon by the touch of a sweet tender kiss…

Missed chances are questions unanswered of a memory not to be seen,

Regrets will follow with a silent cry of a love that may never have been.

So take my hand and trust me as we both live for the day that we see,

For yesterday’s sorrows are now shadows but today is tomorrows memory..

On the Road ....written by delimelek

As you walk the path of life, many others may pass your way
Some will stop to tarry awhile where others choose not to stay.
In the distance you see a crossroads as two paths merge into one
The road is crumbling beneath your feet then suddenly it is gone.
From the shadows a hand reaches out saving you from the mire
Guiding you on a different route leading to your inner desire.

Familiarity has left the path as you venture into pastures new,
Walking along with another now on a discovery to the real you.
You do not fear this stranger for he is just a friend in disguise,
Helping you to unleash your soul through the windows of his eyes
Gently he pushes you onward as his arms shroud away your fears
The touch of his hand calms you as he softly kisses away your tears.

Confidently he inspires you to experience wonders not yet known
As his honesty renews the faith for a truth no other has shown.
The strength that he instils in you is the gift that only he can impart,
For he has chanced upon that special place deep in the core of your heart.
Sadly you watch as he chooses his path to a future you can never share
Knowing that he leaves you not, for in your heart he’ll walk with you there.

Love Hurts ......written by delimelek

Fires of confused emotion burn with zealous in my heart
As they fuel the flames of anxiety slowly tearing me apart
Insecurities rage as the inferno burns out of my control
Reality deluded by fantasy finding no solace in the soul

Senses inflamed with a passion for a love that I use to share
Standing now in the shadows of beauty knowing i dont compare .
Visions of you disappearing, only cloud the clarity of my mind
Eyes that once saw so clearly, tears of confusion now render blind.

Nothing left to reassure me that I have no reason to be this afraid
Where a love yearned to blossom not even a friendship can be saved
Determined, you uphold the promise of silence once spoken to the other
A barricade to strong to be broken by the desperate cries of this lover

Everything now lost I stand here waiting, as I offer my heart to the sea
Waves of unrequited emotion roar drowning my prayers in their reverie
I search the stars in the heavens for an angel to hear my call of distress
In silence you walk away from the shore leaving only a memory to caress.

If anyone can translate these into turkish i would be very happy...

I sent this yesterday to my friend..our relationship has just broken up.
I wrote it in english and (with help) translated it

ONE DAY

One day I will leave from your heart - I know this, but until that day, I hope I will make you smile.

I hope that when that time comes, you will look back at these times and feel warm inside, and I hope I can be strong enough to smile.

If times were different maybe I would have been in your heart forever, but I know this can not be.

It hurts to think of that day, but right now I thank God he lent you to me for a little time.
I whisper I loved you.
Goodbye babes
