It´s normal that whole countries are named after their central places. Even though it is illogical. It´s also normal that words accidentally overlap in a language without any naughty intentions behind. The most important justification for a certain place name to be used was mentioned somewhere in this thread, where was it wait...

So, no exceptions even though they consist of two parts. Thanks, tunci (for the whole thread, I´ve been following it all day, interesting things pop up).

How are words like kahrolmak, sabretmek, kaybetmek etc. divided into syllables?

What about baş-? It has an independent meaning ´head´ but it is often written as one word in compounds like

                    başbakan

                    başkent

                    başparmak

and there is even no POSS in the end.

My Try:

You know, what if there is someone you were not able to hurt/treat pitylessly/kill? A day will come when he will do the same to you because you once couldn´t.

Sometimes it happens that even if the whole world loved you one person wouldn´t. You see because of this one person you are mad at the whole world.

If a human being gives something from his inside, it is not small or big, it´s something real.

Ali´nin öbür tarafa geçtiğini bilmiyordum ta ki Veli bana soylene kadar.

I can´t help thinking what ta ki actually brings to this sentence except an Indo-European flavour. Isn´t

present participle + DAT + kadar

quite enough to express ´until´?

                        > Veli bana söylene kadar Ali´nin öbür tarafa geçtiğini bilmiyordum.

I agree with you, tomac. It´s better to be small and insignificant.

Polish looks bad when written but it sounds beautiful. Like a more engaging form of Russian.

I don´t have a good example. My grammar book which dates to 1960´s says ta ki or ki alone sometimes introduces subclauses of purpose with subjunctive predicate. My first example was from the book. There is one with ta ki also, it looks complicated but I can copy it here:

o vakit, bir sağa bir sola başvurmağa başlıyorsunuz; ta ki daldığınız bu toprak deryası içinden kendinize bir iz bulup çıkasınız

Anyway, it doesn´t seem to be in the meaning ´not until´ here. The author stresses that the meaning of purpose is in the subjunctive mode, not in ta or ki or anything else.

I have got used to seeing subjunctive forms together with diye and that is what you suggested also, si++. The border between diye and için structures is more difficult to draw though...
