Very good advice from Cacık.  Living costs would also depend on where you study, the South (especially London) will most likely be more expensive than the North.  You might also check if you would be allowed to work part time during your studies, as this would help.  Finding a room with friends (or TC friends  ) may also help to keep your costs down, if you decide to study in the UK.

There´re fulltime and parttime PhDs in the UK. During the part-time you can do a job as well, but then it lasts 6 to 8 years and during a fulltime PhD, you cannot have a job besides. Doing a PhD requires a lot of time and effort, and that´s why I find 10,000 pounds not enough because what you are doing is a fulltime research and it´s like a real job. Especially in scientific domains because you help the universities and companies to develop new drugs etc. In  return you are paid less than a lowest salary. I think one deserves more for it.

Hi Mlt

You should check out the British Council website.  They recommend about 6000 Pounds per year just for living expenses such as food, accommodation, buses etc....

10,000 pounds will certainly not be enough for 3 years.  Maybe enough for 1 only.

Also on the British Council website you can see information on scholarships and bursaries.  Worth checking it out if you are seriously considering doing a PhD in the UK.

Good Luck.

Thank you Cacık. 12,000 pounds are four one year. I´m not seriously considering doing a PhD in the UK because I prefer to do it in France at the moment, but since I haven´t found anything insteresting yet, I started to consider the oppourtunities in the UK as well, but I´m not familiar with anything about UK, so I am a bit reluctant and scared. Since it´s about spending 3-4 years of your life...  but doing a PhD in the UK sounds like a very good oppotunirty for a career in science. I´ll check the link.

I´m considering of doing a PhD in UK, I don´t have my own funding, so I can consider doing it with a studentship. It´s not always possible to find a funded PdD other than for UK students but I found a proposition of thesis in Greenwich with a 12000 pounds (around 15000 euros) studentship given besides the university fees.

3 or 4 years is a long period in life and I was thinking if someone can manage to live averagely with 12000 pounds in UK? Or will I need another funding because I think the studentship they are offering is not a lot. I don´t want to lead a miserable life. {#lang_emotions_unsure}

edit: it is 12,000 pounds not 10,000

I like that song as well, I attempted to translate it, but keep in mind that it cannot be like the original and english is my second language

TIDES

The everblooming plants drop down your skin

You bloom colourfully whether seasonably or unseasonably

My one and only your parfume changes

Your blood warms up and you burn me

These tides are impossible to be abandoned
The nights flame up and burn, the nights are extinguished

My body is upset, my drunken head turns

The salt of your skin flows into my skin

My one and only

These tides are impossible to be abandoned
My storm, my trouble, my longing

The lovemakings are not enough

How nice your violence is, how nice your affection is

The more I love you the more it makes me wanna love you

I´m after you till I die, I won´t let you go

Thanks mltm, I wonder why afel made such a fuss?

I think it´s not because of the content but because it has been taken from a conversation between two people.

Thank you mltm, then what do u mean? that the message is directed to Gunes?

I received this message in a photo I uploaded and, effectively, a friend named Gunes was also in it.

Thank you again..

I think it´s meant for everyone, but because there´s someone named "Güneş" among the people, he/she just added it to the end, just the end is directed to her.

It´s a famous quote from Nazım Hikmet, a dead turkish poet.

GÜZEL GÜNLER GÖRECEĞİZ

Güzel günler göreceğiz çocuklar
Motorları maviliklere süreceğiz
Çocuklar inanın, inanın çocuklar
Güzel günler göreceğiz, güneşli günler
Motorları maviliklere süreceğiz
Hani şimdi bize
Cumaları, pazarları çiçekli bahçeler vardır,
Yalnız cumaları, yalnız pazarlar

 and it goes on...

-Yep, I know it girl. I have been seeing Gülay from time to time. That´s why I didn´t say anything. Girl who made your hair on that picture? You look very cute. Aren´t you still getting married, you´re going to stay unmarried forever if you aren´t.

- yes, there is something.

- tell me, who´s this lucky guy? When are you getting married, maybe I can come to your wedding.

- it´s not certain yet. Mine is a bit complicated story. I´ll tell you about it when we meet, but it´s not as complicated as yours Do you have something as well in your life, like a marriage? If there´s, I´ll prepare some people for it

güzel günler göreceğiz, güneşli günler, sen üzerine alınma güneş

We´ll see nice days, sunny days, you don´t take it on yourself "sun".

I think here "sun" = "Güneş" is used as a female name. (Güneş is a female name meaning "sun")
