Yeah so i see!! If you dont like your country why dont you just move if your that unhappy instead of slagging it of at every given opportunity

Actually I didn't read all of the discussion, as I'm a lazy ass bitch English is not my native language and though my mum was born in England, I was only raised in Dutch. The reason my English became quite well is because I had lots of internet contacts, especially Kadir! Though he never intended too and though his English isn't perfect, he had a good vocabulary and the practise made my English improve.

I read one point being made about 'your' instead of 'you're' and 'you are'. Actually, that's because when you think, it goes faster than you can type. But when you speak, the difference in time between what you say and what you think, is smaller. When you type, there will be more chance that you write down what you HEAR in your head so 'we're' and 'were' and 'you're' and 'your'and they're and their will be easily confused in written language. And also.. the way we speak to each other on the forums doesn't necessarily have to be so formal. When I compare my DUtch usage to that of my friends, I talk proper and educated, but this is mainly because my dad is a teacher Dutch, so all my life I heard the correct ways and got corrected whenever I was wrong.

Anyway, I think the whole 'my friend and I' point was kinda exegarated (i have no idea how to spell this word, PLEASE someone tell me), especially to say it's uneducated. On the other hand, i know that in Dutch I would never say 'me and my friend'.. Because there is one point.. it definitely hás to do with laziness about the language you use, and Bod is right..the 'moral' for language is going down.

Another point I'd like to make.. I agree that all the Turkish slang is confusing for learners.. but let's be honest.. in the posts where we can réally learn something, slang is barely ever used. I can figure which member you refer to, and that member uses slang mostly in personal discussions. I for myself like to learn slang in Turkish too. Not because I'm really the type to use it, I prefer full, proper spoken language.. but it remains a dimension of Turkish and I just wanna learn.

I was following this forum at work today but didn't have the chance to join in. I'd just like to say that I work in a job where it is important to use grammar and spelling correctly and I hope I always do so at work. HOWEVER, quite often when emailing I notice I have made mistakes - I don't know why this is but it happens. So if someone appears not to be able to spell properly (such as your two errors in your last post - you spelt 'ultimately' and 'discreet' wrongly), give them a break - it may be just the speed they are typing. Also, although I agree that it is not good for non-english speakers to pick up on bad grammar, people are trying to familiarise themselves with another language (be it English or Turkish). Once they have come to grips with communicating then correct use of grammar can follow. If a small child says 'me want biscuit' it is not correct English but everyone understands what they mean. The child wouldn't continue speaking like that for the rest of his/her life.

As a teacher in England, with full qualified teacher status, I would always teach my pupils to use 'my friend and I'. I would also correct them if I heard them say 'my friend and me'.
I agree with Bod that we should be using correct English grammar on this forum.

As a new user here, I have found so many people who are helpful and kind but stumbling upon this post made me wonder! This is pretty brutal!
Bod, I have to say you should be careful in chastising others and calling them uneducated for the use of "me and my friend" when your own profile says that your reason for learning Turkish is: "Myself and my girlfriend were on holiday in Turunç and loved the country and the people so much we are going back August 2006 and are determined to learn some of the language."
I understand the point of using proper English in the forums however, there are times when people make mistakes and it doesn't seem they should be called on the carpet for it in front of everyone.

İ would agree with bod,if she was posting in a language forum,or something like that

But she was posting in the translation forum,so it is only her business how she speak,it is entitled to her
İf is it formal,slang,or whatever
İt is like private letter or email,we cann't object on whatever she want or have to say,only if we don't like we don't help translating,or we can suggest a better sentence and translate both,she has the right to pick which

But we cann't really discuss people personal life,or judge them in here
And sms,email,or whatever,it is personal so is the way she is puting it through
