abur cubur ---> [colloquial] fast food, food eaten in casual snacks.

Abur cubur yemek sağlığına zararlı ---> Eating fast food is bad for your health.

                   THE WORD " ACABA " IN TURKISH

 

We use "acaba" alot in daily life. In the begining of the sentence or in the end of the sentence. This word is derived from old Turkish Ottoman word " Acep"

Acaba can mean " I wonder " , " I wonder whether .." , " is that so ? ", " Do you think ..?"

Ayşe bu akşam sinemaya gidecek mi acaba ? ----> I wonder if Ayşe will go to the cinema tonight ?

Acaba Türkiye´ye ne zaman gelecek ? ---> I wonder when he/she will come to Türkiye ?

Acaba benimle bir kahve içer misiniz ? ----> I wonder if you like to have coffee with me ?

Acaba bu akşam buraya gelirler mi ? -----> Do you think they will come here tonight ?

Acaba saat kaç ? ----> I wonder what is the time ?

O kim acaba ? ----> I wonder who he/she is ?

Acaba geri dönsek mi ? ----> Do you think we should go back ?

                          THE WORD " ACAYİP " IN TURKISH

 

 Acaip in fact Arabic origin word [ Acaib [plural ] = strange things ]

strange, weird ---> Burada son zamanlarda acayip şeyler oluyor

                           Weird things happening here lately.

                           Bugün acayip bir yaratık gördüm.

                           I have seen a weird creature today.

                           Acayip sesler çıkarıyor.

                           It is making strange noises.

                          

pretty, very, alot ---->  Bugün acayip güzel bir araba gördüm.

                                 Today I have seen very nice car.

                                 Çocuk acayip yaramaz.

                                 The child is quite naughty.

                                 Türkçe acayip kolay bir dil.

                                 Turkish is pretty easy language.

                                 Bugün acayip sıcak.

                                 It is quite hot today.

 

Acayip bir biçimde ------> Oddly

Acayip bir güzellik -------> Extraordinary beauty.

Acele et  --> Hurry up ! 

Acele etme --> Dont hurry !

Aceleci ---> The person who is always in a hurry.

Acelem yok ---> I am not in a hurry.

Acelesi yok ---> It can wait. [ No hurry for it ]

Acele işe şeytan karışır --->  Literally " Satan will involve into something that is done in a hurry " The nearest proverb for this saying would be " Haste makes waste " "

Acemi ---> Inexperienced

                Acemi sürücü duvara çarptı ---> Inexperienced driver has hit the wall.

 

Acemi ----> unskilled

                 Bizim kedi fare avlamada acemi --> Our cat is unskilled in catching the mouse.

 

Acemi -----> beginner

                   Türkçede daha acemiyim  ---> I am yet beginner at Turkish.

 

Acemilik çekmek ---> Having difficulty when you have just started to doing  something new that you never done before .

                   Her yeni  işte alışana kadar acemilik çeker insan .

                   One has difficulty in any new job till he get used to it.

                  Sometimes the word " ACI " is used as " bitter " in Turkish.

 

bitter --> Acı bir tadı var ---> It has a bitter taste.

         Aspirinin acı bir tadı var ----> Aspirin has a bitter taste.

         Acı kahve ---> Bitter coffee

         Acı son ------> Bitter end.       

         Acı sözler -----> Bitter words.

         Beraber acı,tatlı hatıralarımız oldu ---> We had bitter and sweet memories together.

         Dost acı söyler ---> [its a proverb which means literally " The real friend tells you bitter words " which is " The real friend tells you the truth even though they[bitter words ] hurt you "

Herşeyi mahvettin.------> You ruined everything.

Hayatımı mahvettin ----> You ruined my life.

Yağmur tatil planlarımı mahvetti ---> The rain ruined my holiday plans.

Sigara içerek bedeninizi mahvediyorsunuz --> You are ruining your life by smoking.

to ruin --> mahvetmek, perişan etmek .

Elini veren kolunu kaptırır ---->[saying] You give him your hand, he takes your arm.

The person who wants more ,once you give him something he tries to take advantage of it and asks much more.

Elimde değil  ---> [literally,its not in my hand] that means " I can´t help it "

Ne zaman seni düşünsem elimde değil gülümsüyorum.

I cant help but smile whenever I think of you.

Onun patronluk taslaması elinde değil.

She cant help being bossy.

 

There is another word to use for " can´t help it"

- dan yapamamak = can´t help do...

Sana bakmadan yapamıyorum.

I can´t help looking at you.

Samanlıkta iğne aramak ---->[ Literally To look for a needle in a haystack. ] that means to look for something that has a very tiny chance to find it.

Gerçek aşkı aramak , samanlıkta iğne aramak gibidir ---> Looking for a true love is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Dürüst insan bulmak, samanlıktan iğne aramaktan daha zordur ---> To find a honest person is more difficult to look for a needle in a haystack.

                              its enough today ,lets wait for tomorrow, may[hoping that] tomorrow bring good things.

 

Sabah ola hayrola ----> hoping that till morning things will change into good.
