I like information in a nutshell, like what you said about ol- denoting a state transition.

1. Is the verb ol- regular in its conjugation? Does it have a full paradigm?

2. ´to be´ is typically suffixed in Turkish. ol- is used only if there is a grammatical element that has to be hanged somewhere (olmalı). But ol- has other meanings, for instance ´to become´ in which it acts like an ordinary verb. Am I right?

I´m not sure if all my posts are visible. My operator hates me. I guess they sold me this connection only to keep an eye on me through the computer screen. Most of the time it seems that I bought nothing.

In case my previous message was blank I try to remember what I said. First of all I thanked scalpel for volunteering. Probably I also told I am not looking for a perfect English translation, I am just trying to understand a text which is ultimately difficult for a learner in my level.

He came to the result that there was nothing as boring as being sober next to a drunkard. Whatever it was, until morning drunkards had the right to make up the type of nonsense that they would have forgotten every one, whereas the sober ones didn’t have any other chance but to look at this clowning with pain. Even though they were not in it they couldn’t stay out of it.

I agree it is funny that even suffixes tend to be borrowed from one language to another but it happens in world languages. I don´t know so much about Turkish, of course, but I know in Russian, for istance, the same English -men-suffix creates new actor names. They have even invented a feminine form for it, so a female athlete is sports|men|ka. The same way the Turkish actor derivator -ci is borrowed to Arabic and used with original Arabic words until know.

It might also be that there is a ready model in the language itself and the alien model feels at home because it is supported by similar domestic material.

I borrowed this novel to read and enjoy but it´s so difficult language that what I am doing is far from reading and enjoying. I have to unlay the sentences brick by brick. But it must be useful in the end. Scalpel, thank you for your kind help. Good to see I wasn´t too much lost.

We can´t. That´s the difference between conjugating existing stems and deriving new ones from them. You can add for instance the dative ending to any noun but rules about deriving are only guidelines. The use of this knowledge is that when we see a long exhausting word we can try to split it into pieces and then guess what it might mean.
