Yesterday I was in a Finnish chat and I advertised what a regular language Turkish is. One man wanted a proof. He asked what is ´good  -  better  -  the best´ in Turkish. I wrote

                                iyi  -  daha iyi  -  en iyi

He looked at it and said: "Yes it looks regular indeed."

I know I know AlphaF. Such a stupid mistake, I am ashamed of it. Just like I was saying to my friend "give up you will die anyway". Ok everybody laugh...

That dog has an excellent knowledge of the cases then.

Do you know what I think? The accusative ending comes there when something comes between the predicate and the direct object. Just to make sure the connection between the head and the modifier is not disturbed.

Anyway, it is more complicated than one should think.

Anyway, the interesting and the always difficult correction is this:

...satın aldım.

In English there would definitely be an indefinite article in this sentence. In Turkish indefinite objects should be unmarked but these examples are quite usual. Some say bir is not an article here but a numeral. I have my suspicions: I think it is connected to the tense. DI is past tense but it also carries perfectual aspect, i.e. denotes a completed perfected action. How could the action be completed if the blouse was still indefinite? When using DI past Turks are a couple of steps ahead in their thoughts so to say.

I don´t think you could use another tense with it could you?

Dün evde yalnız oturdum. Oğlum arkadaşıyla günübirliğine Helsinki´ye gitmişti. Sabah bisiklete binip bit pazarına gittim. Pembe bir bluz iki avruya satın aldım, oldukça memnun oldum. Pazaryerinde biraz yürüyüp karpuz ve domates aldım. Çilek çok lezzetli kokuyordu ama pahalı olduğu için onu almadım. Biraz sonra ormandaki yabanmersini yetecek, onu bekleyip para biriktireceğim diye düşündüm. Hava çok güzeldi: eve giderken ırmağın kıyısında katedral parkında biraz dolaştım.

Eve dönünce tavuk pişirdim. Arkadaşımın beni aramış olduğunu farkettim. Sık sık Skype´te konuşarak bütün akşamı onunla geçirdik. Hasta oldu, ona teselli verdim, ümidini kesmesini söyleyip duruyordum. Aynı zamanda araştırmama çalıştım: 16. yüzyılında yazılan metinlerden belli bir fiil içeren cümleler topladım.

Saat on ikide arkadaşıma iyi geceler dedim. Yatağımda uzanarak Norveçli bir polis romanından birkaç sayfa okudum ama pek ilginç değildi. Çok geçmeden gözlerim kapandı.
