Quoting janissary:

içtik-ten sonra= after he drank

birasını bekler-ken= when he is waiting his beer

Hmm but the first example confuses me:

içtik-ten.. where does that k come from?

He drank = içti
ten sonra = after

Why içtikten sonra and not içtiten? (obviously it sounds funny, but i need a grammar explanation )

Quoting miss_ceyda:

thanks for your posts esther although i wanst actually looking for myself hehe my bf is going to this university after the summer and i just wanted to check out the website.
after college i plan to obtain a TESOL diploma from the internet and then go to turkey to live and after i am satisfied with my level of turkish i hope to become an english teacher in istanbul.
i have considered uni, i think i would really enjoy it and it would greatly benefit me and also my turkish although i dont know... :S

what part of the blacksea are you from janissary??

Hahaha ok I think it's just very important to go to univresity when you have the capacity and the ability. But i guess when you can get where you want without it, i would definitely save myself from years in schoolbanks. Unfortunately my level of turkish and future dreams require uni
If you ever change your mind i can assure you Istanbul has many faculties to learn to become English teacher, but i'm sure your level is high enough

Oh btw, i don't actrually know.. have you got british or turkish passport or both? If you have Turkish passport I doubt if you actually need that list, because then you probably are allowed to study anywhere you wish

Something else i advice. If the study you desire isn't in Samsun or isn't possible there, look for cities that are close enough around. I did the same for Izmir (just in case). but the only university within reach who had Turkish L&L was in Manisa and they weren't on the list that accept foreign students

Miss Ceyda, i printed the brochure of YÖS examination for foreign students. They have a list of each education that accepts foreign students and it is listed on university.
The only university in Samsun that accepts foreign students is the Ondokus mayis university.

I checked the list of education they offer for foreing students and it seems as if each study at that unviersity accepts foreign students. If i were you i'd download the newest 'Guide to YÖS examination', as mine is already quite old. It also shows in tables how many foreign students each faculty accepts. In Samsun the highest amount of accepted foreign students in a certain faculty is only 6.. and most of them only 1..

For me in Izmir there are three possible studies, and they accept 3 (teacher training french), 2 (teacher training turkish) and 7 (turkish alnguages an dliterature).
The last one luckily is the one i really wanan go for.

Well just go check it out. Have you got any plans for after your college?

Quoting janissary:

I think it will be better if u dont translate one by one.

for example:
Turist birasını beklerken, başka bir müşteriye gider, çünkü bir adresi aramaktadır.
T: Affedersiniz, Istiklal Caddesi nerede, biliyor musunuz?
M: Istiklal caddesi mi?
T: Evet

You are definitely right, but i didn't figure this whole -ken- thing out yet, nor the -ten sonra-.

Can someone give a few examples of them? Sentences that use -ken- suffix and sentences that use - ten sonra- ?
Thanks

Now i will go study in the garden. The weather is gorgeous and my exams are waiting

Can a native speaker please correct my mistakes? Thanks in advance

G: Buyrun?
T: Bir kahve lütfen
G: Sütlü mü, sütsüz mü?
T: Sütsüz lütfen.
G: Ve şekerli mi, şekersiz mi?
T: şekerli
G: Hemen getiriyorum

-----

A tourist is sitting on a teras, because the weather is really beautiful today. The waiter is coming and asks the tourist:

G: What would you like?
T: A coffee please
G: With milk, without milk?
T: Witout milk please
G: And with or without sugar?
T: With sugar.
G: I'm bringing it straight away.

-----

G: Tabii, efendim.

The tourist is drinking the coffee. Its very nice.
A few minutes later the tourist wants to go to another terace. There another customer is sitting on the terace.

G: Good day,w hat would you like?
T: Is the beer cold?
G: Yes it's cold
T: In that case a cold beer please
G: Ofcourse, sir
-----

T: Affedersiniz, Istiklaler Caddesi nerede, biliyor musunuz?
M: Istiklal mi caddesi?
T: Evet

----

The tourist is waiting for his beer and goes to the other customer, because he is looking for an address.

T: Pardon me, do you know where the Istiklaler Caddesi is?
M: The Istiklál caddesi?
T: Yes
M: Go straight ahead, it's further on the left side.
T: Thank you very much.
M: You're welcome.

Then the waiter brought the beer, the tourist drank it and went on the way

Thank you all so much! Which is the best one to use? I am sure all are perfect though Thank you again.

I'd say Jannisary's one, because he has used the Turkish characters It always looks better and more taken care of when you use them, in my opinion.
