Quoting MarioninTurkey:

Hi Richard

Make sure you get tickets and come to the British Summer Fete at the Consulate on 14th June. You will meet lots of Brits living in Istanbul there.

We are selling tickets at the Greenhouse (0216 449 3034) in Kadikoy.

Alternatively check the website of the British Community Council:

www.bccistanbul.org

Hi Marion,
Thankyou for your help, yes I am very interested in attending this Fete, is it okay to bring Nesrin along also?
Best wishes Rich & Nes

Quoting lovebug:

Hi Rich,

It is good to see you on TC. I know how you feel. When I visit Turkey for an extended period of time, I miss hearing or seeing familiar things. I guess we are feeling a little bit of what immigrants feel when they leave their own country for another. I am posting a link to a forum for Expat's in Turkey. They meet pretty frequently and I joined for when I would be living in Turkey (not sure when that will be now). I know that there are a lot of members from England and other countries as well. I hope the link works.

Also, maybe check out these websites:

Our best to you and Nesrin.

Wendy and Yilmaz

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for your message, I hope you and Yilmaz are well? and thanks for the websites I posted on Mymerhaba before and I like their website. I just feel a little lonley here I suppose it is natural and Nesrin said herself she would probably feel lonley also being in the same situation, she has the advantage that her English is very good.
Best wishes from Rich & Nesrin

Hello all,
I am currently living in Istanbul as most members here know, I have made some Turkish friends and have some exisiting ones but still feel very lonley when it comes to my native language English. I enjoy meeting new people and was only invited on saturday to a Henna party, I did enjoy it but cannot converse as much in Turkish as I would like to.

My wife can also see that I just miss England a little, I wanted to write here if there are any English friends who are currently living in Turkey also and do they meet up with each other? I must admit it would be nice to have an occasional chat with somebody who is also living in Turkey and how they are getting on with life here. I have MSN and YAHOO if anyone is interested
Best wishes Rich and Nesrin

Hello everyone,
I am needing some useful information I am currently staying in Istanbul with my wife and require some information about renewing my visa. I will need to re-apply for a new visa after my 90 day stay, I do not want to obtain a residence visa as we are both seeing how life will go while I am in Turkey.

I want to obtain another visa after my current one expires another 90 day visa would it be best to just visit Greece or Cyprus and then re-enter Turkey? my wife wants to make a trip also to Greece for a small break but needs a visa which is not worth all the hassle for just a day trip. Please could someone advise me what to do after my 90 day single entry visa expires thanks in advance

Hello all,
Thanks everyone who replied I send my best wishes to all of you, I usually write to each reply but forgive me if I cannot this time. I have been here less than two weeks and admit to feeling a bit lonley, my wife Nes works very long hours and is often out for at least 12 hours a day commuiting to work and then working. I can do the housework and cleaning and shopping and anything else around the house and this will fill a little time during the day.

I am still looking for work of some kind and although Nes said I can do the teaching exam I am not sure I actually want to go down this road. I would like to work and would consider almost anything that will bring in some money. It is very nice here but as always when you are alone you will find it difficult to adjust wherever you are in the world. Well must go and finish the housework best wishes to all

Hello everyone,
Hello from my new home in Istanbul, I have just been here less than a week and I am settling in well. My wife Nes told me to avoid going out to Taksim today because of the may day march. It is lovely weather here today very warm and sunny, all the children are playing outside our apartment and last night the caretaker had a barbacue of which I tried the tavuk. I am pleased I am finally with Nesrin and can now report on life in Istanbul for a foreigner like myself

Hi everyone,
I hope we are all well? it is now just one week until I leave the U.K. for my life in Turkey I am getting very excited and also a bit nervous, I am keen to meet some new friends of Nes's and begin my new life in Istanbul. I am flying out on the 26th April I have a couple of suitcases and am preparing my list of things I need to take. I will be living in Istanbul for two years to start with, we both may then come to the U.K. or stay in Turkey this long term option is not yet to be arranged as we will simply see how things workout.

I may not be on the forum for a little time so I wish you all on T.C. my best wishes and see you very soon

Hi all,
I hope we are all well? I was talking to my wife about socialising and whenever I visit Turkey when we go out we meet often with some of Nes's friends it is really more interesting than living here in England because I often go out with male friends and we often discuss the same things over and over again.

The great circle of friends nes has really makes a difference she has both female and male friends and often her female friends will visit us and we talk about everything over a cup of tea, I of course have to have translation for the longer conversations. I just find in England there is not that circle of friends both female and male and the conversations and socialising are not as interesting.

I really enjoy meeting her friends which now have become my friends there is so much more interaction and genuine friendship, often I will not see my friends every week but Nes often sees her friends each week and discuss everything over a cup of tea or a meal

Hi all,
It is less than three weeks before I go to Istanbul and it seems very soon that I will be leaving the U.K.

I am at home recuperating from surgery and hope I feel better soon and will be able to travel to my dear wife. I recently resigned also from my job at the hospital in the town I live so everthing is changing and I am gearing up for my move to Turkey on the 26th April. I hope Heathrow's terminal 5 will be operating normal I am dreading my baggage ending up in Italy with another possible backlog. I will keep intouch with everyone when I am in Istanbul as I still have much more time to recuperate from my surgery. Gorusmek uzere
