Agree - it "smells like translation" or is what I call turklish

tunci, it is really helpful when you point out things like this. As a native English speaker, it is this sort of thing that is a mistake we can make in Turkish, and shows we are not native Turkish speakers. In trying to move from upper intermediate to advanced, or as an advanced learner trying to get even better, these types of points what we should be working on.

 To be honest, it is quite funny that in the financial world in Turkey many terms are just imported straight into Turkish from English, and used in preference to some Turkish terms that are rejected because "they sound Arabic". Even the name of one of the best Turkish financial magazines is called Capital (not sermaye!).

This even applies for the takaful banks -- one is called Türkiye Finans Katılım Bankası. Bank Asya used to be called Asya Finans. So we can debate whether Finans is English ... or Turkish ... maybe it is even Islamist?

When you look at a selection of Turkish business cards to see the range of terms used. Sometimes the choice of calling the department Mali İşler or Finans or Finans ve Mali İşler or Finans ve Muhasebe depends more on the image the company is trying to project than anything else. There seems to be no direct correlation between whether the company is Turkish owned or a multinational.

Still, I agree, the Turkish terms are nice, if sadly sometimes seeming to be going out of fashion.

You don´t need Turkish MS office. Just download the Turkish dictionary from the MS site to your version of office and it will work if you select the text as being Turkish.

 Just to point out for native English speakers:

remember as in Tunci´s examples, that unlike English, even if the number is two or more the word stays singular.

In English we say three flowers. But it isn´t üç çiçekler or üç taneler in Turkish. It is ü. çiçek (three flowers) or üç tane (three of them).

 Compliance department in a company is often translation Uyum Bölümü.

Cheer up! The English was unclear.  We don´t have the concept of "a term" in English. If the question had said "medical term" I am sure you would have got it right!
