I would have translated this in English as:

Free: s/he was the first to put her/his plate on the table.

(note: it is tabağını - his or her plate, not just a plate or dish).

As the others have said, the "o" emphasises he/she as being the first.

without it, I would have translated it into English as:

First, s/he put her/his plate on the table.

With the "o" it means there were a numebr of people who put their plates on the table, but this person was first.

Without the "o", this person went on to do other things, but first they put their plate on the table.

 As opposed to the phrase old people often grumble when they have to get up and do a job themselves: "wear the old ones out first"!

geçilmez gurbetin sokaklarından

gurbet is a hard concept to translate as we don´t quite have the same concept in English.

Gurbet is a foreign land, but it carries with it heavy longings for your homeland.

Maybe "the land of exile" conjures up the same idea in English. Any thoughts from native English speakers?

They had no hurry. If they had a hurry they wouldn´t have ridden this slow.

A couple of comments on the English. I agree gök´s correction. the turkish is "hiç aceleleri yoktu" not "hiç acele yoktu" so we have to relate the hurry to them. But in English we would normally say "they were not in any hurry" or "there were not in a rush".

Also, I could be picky and say it should be "slowly" as it is an adverb describing how they ride not an adjective, but that would be being fussy and I am not trying to correct gök, just giving a few hints to help him with English in return for his fantastic help for others in Turkish.
