 This is quite formal. You´ll more often hear "cana yakın" - literally meaning "close to the soul".

I wonder if you were thinking of "buçuk" which also means half. But it is used slightly differently. e.g. in Turkish you don´t say "buçuk saat" but you do say "yarım saat". For one and a half you don´t say "bir ve yarım" you say "bir buçuk".

 Göküyüm, I agree. But both literal and free translation is important on a site like this, so I think it is helpful to do both i.e. give a literal translation into English and then present "how we would say it".

I believe that the greatest translators are the ones who translate the sense and meaning and feelings, not the words. I was really impressed once listening to a Turkish guy doing simultaneous translation. The Turk he was translating for said literally "X was the type of man who wouldn´t tread on an ant". The translator said in English "X was the type of man who wouldn´t hurt a fly." That to me is expert translation! And he did it in an instanti simultaneously, without even stopping to think!!
