yes it is correct aswell.

'ma','iş','mak' >> these suffixes are used to make noun the verbs

yapmak - to do
And yap-ma is its noun case

toplamak - to add (in maths)
topla-ma - addition (in maths again) ... like that here; it became a noun

almak - to take/to buy
vermek - to give
alış veriş - shopping ( here we used 'iş' to make it noun)

his homework >> onun Ã¶devi ( but you dont need to say 'onun')

Ã¶dev-i-n-i >>> first 'i' is second personal suffix
'n' is fusion letter
second 'i' is accusative suffix

so; John wants to do his homework well >> John Ã¶devini iyi yapmak istiyor. ( here we emphasize 'well' )

If you say ;

İyi TÃ¼rkÃ§e konuşmayı ve okumayı JAMES istiyor ( here; you emphasize 'JAMES'. Not the others want to speak and read Turkish, but James)

Well,if you look at it that way,then i believe you can say that they use

İ am student....ben Ã¶ğrencim
İ'm student...Ã¶ğrencim

Ã–ğrenci means student... and (m ) .. is (am )

As you see V.to be not a seperated word in Turkish,but it's a suffix.

And mostly in Turkish we don't say ben Ã¶ğrencim, we just say Ã¶ğrencim.
