parayı görünce götün kalkmasın

dont get a big head when you get money.[when you get rich]

´götü kalkmak ´ is a rude slang that means literarlly means " having an arising bo..tom."

 which means " to have a big head",

Number of young moms on decline

Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data has shown that the number of births for women who are under 15 has dropped dramatically in the last 10 years.

 According to the TÜİK data, between 2001-2010 there were 12,532,530 births in Turkey.

When the age of the mothers was analyzed, there was a drop of 87 percent of mothers who were under 15.

The number of births for women who are between 15-19 also dropped by 37 percent, according to the report. The birth numbers also dropped by 22.3 percent for women between 20 and 24.

The statistics showed that women above 30 started giving more births in the last 10 years. Accordingly, there was a 31 percent increase for women who chose to be mothers between the ages of 31 and 39.

The birth numbers also fell for women who were above 40. Accordingly, the number of births dropped by 19 percent for women who were between 45 and 49

Note : I think this is good news for Turkish society.

Quoting MarioninTurkey

While EVERY death and injury in the earthquake is an absolute tragedy, I was really upset to read about the second Japanese person just rescued lunchtime today, who died after half an hour of heart failure. The Turkish doctors did everything they could to save him.

Atsushi Miyzaki was a doctor, and he came to help those suffering in the earthquake. He gave his life to help Turks. I pray that the knowledge he self-sacrificially helped others wşll comfort his grieving relatives.

Looking forward to good news about the reporters who are still missing from the hotel ...

Evet Marion, Every death and injury is a tragedy. And in my eyes that Japanise doctor is a hero as he sacrificed himself for other people. Japanese people have big hearts. Lets hope and pray that may the rest of people get saved soon..

Turkey commemorates 73rd anniversary of Atatürk´s death

10 November 2011, Thursday / TODAYSZAMAN.COM

The Turkish nation remembered Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, with ceremonies held throughout the country on Thursday, the 73rd anniversary of his death.

Official ceremonies commemorating Atatürk´s death began with President Abdullah Gül laying a wreath at Anıtkabir, the Turkish leader´s mausoleum in Ankara. Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Özel, main opposition party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and many other political figures attended the ceremony. There was also a ceremony held at Dolmabahçe Palace, where Ataturk died at 9:05 a.m. on Nov. 10, 1938.

Regardless of where they are, people observed a moment of silence at 9:05 a.m. Flags across the country were flown at half-staff.

Atatürk was born in 1881 in Thessalonica, in present-day Greece. While his wartime record in the Balkan Wars, World War I and the War of Independence is outstanding, he is chiefly remembered for founding the Turkish Republic and the modernizing reforms that he instituted.

Atatürk died at Dolmabahçe Palace, in İstanbul on Nov. 10, 1938, finally succumbing to cirrhosis of the liver. His body was first taken to a temporary resting place at the Ethnography Museum in Ankara on Nov. 21, 1938. When his mausoleum was completed, he was interred with a grand ceremony on Nov. 10, 1953.

During his presidency, Atatürk embarked upon a program of political, economic and cultural reform. An admirer of the Enlightenment, he sought to transform the former Ottoman Empire into a modern, democratic and secular nation-state. The principles of Atatürk´s reforms, upon which Turkey was established, are referred to as Kemalism.

Note : Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is a model of how to be a great leader. Not only for Republic of Turkey but for the entire world.

Rahat uyu Atam. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti ilelebet payidar kalacaktır.

A preliminary 5.7-magnitude earthquake caused a six-story hotel and other buildings to collapse in eastern Turkey on Wednesday, trapping people inside, according to media reports, two weeks after a strong temblor in the region killed around 600 people.

State-run TRT television said the quake brought down the hotel as well as some buildings that had been damaged in the earlier quake in the province of Van. TV footage showed residents and rescuers trying to lift debris to evacuate people believed to be trapped under the hotel in the provincial capital of Van.

CNN Turk television said the hotel was being used by journalists and aid workers who were in the city. It was not known how many people were trapped inside.

The quake occurred at 1923 GMT, with the epicentre in the Edremit district, some 15 kilometres (nine miles) from the Van province that bore the brunt of the deadly 7.2 magnitude earthquake on October 23, according to the Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.

Note : May Allah help those people ..Its so unlucky that they are experiencing another earthquake after that big one..

or I would say " Kutunun dışını düşün "

in the same way we can make another sentence ;

think inside the box " Kutunun içini düşün "

Kutunun dış + ı [´s] + n [buffering letter] + ı [accusative case] ---> Literally ; it´s[box´s] outside

Kutunun iç + i [´s] + n [buffering letter ] + i [accusative case] ---> Literally ;  it´s [box´s] inside

Quoting yaseminler

Please how would be this sentence if ever we replace "umuyorum" or "ümit ediyorum" by "umarım"?:

I am hoping to pass the exam:"Sınavı geçeceğimi umarım"(biraz tuhaf görünüyor bana)...should it be "umarım (ki) sınavı geçeceğım" instead?

Thank you!

 " Umarım   sınavı  geçerim "    is better.
