Quoting acute

why can you not sa?

pencereler sılmek  - to clean windows or

evde pencereler temiz - to clean my home windows

 ama pencereler hiç sılmek {#emotions_dlg.bigsmile}

why not temiz for clean?

camları sılemk  is used instead but the meaning of camlarmak is (glass ) to me this could be any type of glass

sılmek - to delete , wipe, erase

Pencereleri silmek - to wipe  windows

Evde pencereler temiz - the windows in the house are clean

How do you clean your windows acute ? By wiping them with a wet cloth right ? Therefore we use "to wipe" in this case.

‘Sultans of the Net’ bring Russia down to earth, advance to semis

29 September 2011, Thursday / TODAY´S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL

In the European Women’s Volleyball Championship final quarter, the national team beat Russia 3-0 in the semi-finals for the second time.

Russia -- the reigning world champion and pre-championship favorite at the ongoing Euros -- was dominated by a powerful Turkish display on Wednesday, leading to a shocking straight sets defeat (27-25, 25-21, 25-18) that sent the mighty Russians crashing out of the 2011 Women´s CEV Volleyball European Championship in Monza, Italy.

“The Sultans of the Net,” the nickname for the Turkish women´s volleyball team, thus advanced to European semifinals for only the second time. Vladimir Kuzyutkin´s Russian ladies were on the back foot for all but the first set, when they had the opportunity to take the lead with two set points. The superior defensive and passing play of Marco Aurelio Motta´s Turkish team ultimately proved fatal for Russian hopes of retaining the title.

Bahar Toksoy and Neriman Özsoy of Turkey were the standout players of the match, with Toksoy notching up five aces and Özsoy 17 kills. The Russians were heavily reliant on Ekatrina Gamova and Nataliya Goncharova, who proved unable to provide the spark needed, in what was a lackluster, predictable performance.

The two countries were evenly matched during the first set, with the Russians narrowly in front by one point at the first technical break. The Turks had reversed this to a three point lead by the second break, though the Russians came back convincingly to have the first set ball at 24-23, only for Neslihan Darnel to parry it away. Another opportunity for Kuzyutkin´s side to take the lead in sets was dashed moments later by the Turks, with Bahar going on to close the set 27-25 with an ace.

The Russians started the second set in a determined fashion, taking a three point lead by the first technical timeout, only to be foiled by Turkey´s effective block-defense system and four aces. Turkey´s captain Esra Gümüş closed the set 25-21.

Russia fell behind in the third set, only to make a brave comeback from 14-18 to 18-19. However, after Motta called a break, the Turkish women hit back with a resounding six point scoring frenzy with no Russian reply, ending the set, and match, 25-18.

Speaking after the match, Turkey head coach Marco Aurelio Motta said: “[We] don´t usually predict the outcome of the match. However, the result against Russia came by surprise. We were preparing for a win, but did not expect a 3-0. Our game was principally stable; we controlled the game in all sets. Our defense and service were brilliant. On the other hand, Russia suffered particularly in defense.”

The Turks are scheduled to face the winner of Saturday´s Poland-Serbia encounter in the semis.

Nice job girls !!

Quoting si++

I can list for example:

Kız, yağmur yağmasaydı, dışarı çıkacaktı.

Kız, yağmur yağmasaydı, çıkacaktı dışarı.

Dışarı çıkacaktı, yağmur yağmasaydı, kız.

Çıkacaktı dışarı, yağmur yağmasaydı, kız.

Çıkacaktı, yağmur yağmasaydı, dışarı kız.

Çıkacaktı, yağmur yağmasaydı, kız dışarı.

etc.

 Poor sentence fallen to many pieces just like hit by a big lorry.. not wrong but most of them doesnt sound good . Learners dont need to learn these permutations ! Abla, in my opinion you should stick with your original [proper] sentence.  [Kız, yağmur yağmasaydı, dışarı çıkacaktı. ] SOV

Quoting Mavili

Loving this break down of common suffixesSmile I also am glad you think of helpful topics like this. I will be refering back to it alot I am sure. Could I request something as well? If you think its relavent, will you also explain the suffixes -erak/-arak which have to do with "gerunds of state" or something. Pretty please?{#emotions_dlg.angel}

 GERUNDS OF STATE [ DURUM ULAÇLARI] --> - [y] arak , - [y] erek

it gives the meaning like "by doing ", with doing "

FORMULA IS ;

VERB STEM + [y--> if needed] + ARAK or EREK [takes one of these according to the last vowel of the word stem ]

GÜL        +   EREK ---> Gülerek [ by smiling ]

Ağlayarak eve gitti ----->He/she went home [by] crying ---> As you see, this suffix explains the state  of act , how did he /she go home ? By crying

Gülerek cevap verdi bana ---->

by smiling + answer + gave + to me -----> He/she has given me answer by smiling

Müzik dinleyerek ders çalışırım.----> I study by listening to music.

Bahçede konuşarak yürüyorlardı ---> They were walking by talking in the garden.

Zevk alarak Türkçe öğreniyoruz ----> We are learning Turkish by enjoying [it]

Kitap okuyarak dinleniyor -----> He is relaxing by reading book.
