Don´t hit me... but I wasn´t that impressed by the Aya Sofia. People had been talking about it so much, I was looking forward to it, and it was...okay. I didn´t have a wow-moment inside. The murals were nice, and the building does have it appeal, but it´s not in my top-buldings list.

At least she stands behind something. You can complain all you want, but she makes her own money (and A LOT at that.) She is a savy business woman, but she still has principals, as is shown by her being upset about this.

Wow... won´t they be able to fix that in time for the university applications? That kid said she won´t be able to graduate in 5 months, but it must be possible to think of a solution before that time.

Interesting, I´ve never seen a Turk beating a child, and I´ve been around a lot of Turkish people. Guess I just am around a different crowd.

In the US I´ve seen quite a bit of what I consider abuse, but mustly what I´ve seen are  incredibly rude children children who have been indulged in the extreem.

It has always been amazing when visiting Turkey meeting such well mannered children.

It´s not something that often happens in public. But if you stay at people´s houses and there are some naughty kids there, the chance is big that you´ll see a mommy threatening with her slipper. It´s not about the "crowd" I am in. This happens in all classes, all areas. And perhaps that is why the children are so well mannered

I just don´t see the point in blurting out opinions without any reasoning behind it. The whole point of a forum is to voice ideas and discuss them.

“I am against any ideology being forced upon people,” İnsel said. “Both the worshipping of [Republican founder Mustafa Kemal] Atatürk, which has been imposed upon us as a secular religion, and the new celebrations of Holy Birth Week violate Turkey’s secular education.”

I agree. When I was in Turkey during the day of the Republic last time it was a bit strange to me to see the kids being drilled with patriotic poems and such. I also don´t think celebrating a Holy birth week has a place in secular schools. I don´t think it´s wrong to learn about religion in schools, but that´s not the same as participating in a celebration of one religion. I also don´t see how this will contribute to tolerance in Turkey. I think rather general religious education, teaching kids about ALL major religions of the world would contribute to tolerance.

I agree. It´s not in all Turkish families, but I have seen a lot of beating of kids. And not a small corrective slap on the hand to scare them, but a serious beating with belts, shoes, etc. On the other hand, I have also seen kids in Turkey that should get one of those corrective slaps. One kid pushed me hard to the side the other day, because I was blocking his view of a bunch of toys. His mom didn´t say a damn thing and just continued buying him toys. Tsss....

Three words and you still needed to edit? You should explain your opinions more. Just saying "This sucks" or "this rules" doesn´t open up a debate.

Hm, he´s a bit full of himself. I agree with him for a large part, but to say that if Turkey was a EU member, the IMF seats wouldn´t have been lost is just silly (and a bit childish in my opinion). Having Turkey in the EU wouldn´t have changed the failures of for example Greece.
