Thread: French presidential candidate ‘feels close to Turks’

I think somebody needs more experience to be a president. Being out of highschool for 3 years just isn´t enough. You shouldn´t support somebody based on their cultural background or because they are so positive. Being a president requires leadership and management skills, and also requires other people to be willing to follow you. In any case, this isn´t a real run for presidency, just a call for attention for his views.

This list was based on measurements between 2005 and 2009. Ofcourse Greece was happy then. They were living of European and non-existent Greek money, retiring at the age of 50. Keep in mind that this measure of happiness is not simply asking people "how happy are you" but it also takes into account the people that have to struggle to survive.

By and large, rich countries are happier--and that´s no coincidence.

Quantifying happiness isn´t an easy task. Researchers at the Gallup World Poll went about it by surveying thousands of respondents in 155 countries, between 2005 and 2009, in order to measure two types of well-being.

First they asked subjects to reflect on their overall satisfaction with their lives, and ranked their answers using a "life evaluation" score from 1 to 10. Then they asked questions about how each subject had felt the previous day. Those answers allowed researchers to score their "daily experiences"--things like whether they felt well-rested, respected, free of pain and intellectually engaged. Subjects that reported high scores were considered "thriving." The percentage of thriving individuals in each country determined our rankings.

Turkey ranks number 103 on the list:

Really...multi-billion? You seem to get more and more off-track with this issue. How is claiming there was a genocide giving the Armenians income?

Thread: Reasons not go to military service - documentary about being gay

First of all, I personally think that being gay is not some sort of mental illness which will prevent you from properly functioning in the army. The Dutch army has gay people in it, and it has never led to problem.

Secondly...really... No other way to prove that you are gay? I think that a conversation with a trained psychologist will be enough. I think it is just inhuman and against any basic human right to ask for men to provide pictures of their sexual actions, while smiling! As if being gay only has to do with sexual actions! I knew I was hetero sexual long before I had any sex. It´s crazy to approach this matter in this way.

I think it´s noticable that I get really upset about this It´s already hard for a lot of gay men in Turkey to come out of the closet for their sexuality, and than for some of them (luckily not all) to be subjected to this kind of behaviour is very sad.

Idiots are not dangerous. People who agree with idiots and who take what they say seriously are the dangerous ones. I am not only talking about the idiotic slave-tale here (wtf!!!) but also about the abuse of the like button. In any case, I´m sure there are some mutfi´s around who agree with this, although the one quoted here might not actually have said it. It´s only dangerous if people listen to it.

Keep in mind that speaking Turkish will not give you a cheaper room rate. They will hear that your not Turkish anyway from your accent. You should ask around what normal room prices are. Than ask in Turkish, and if they give you a very high touristic price, tell them which price you are willing to pay. Good luck!

The biggest problem with the whole "all-in beach and sun" tourism is that it can be done in any country. If any other country in the world with beaches and sun, and enough food becomes cheaper than it will take tourists away from Turkey very easily. Turkey should compete with its unique aspects, which are not sun and beaches, but cuisine, historical cultural attractions and nature.

Hm... I don´t think you´ll ever see a taxi right on the doorstep of the Dolmabahce palace Interesting location to photoshop the design.

Anyway, I think the top two look the best, but perhaps the top right holds the most lugage space. It´s really cool to let people vote on this!

I just watched a documentary that really shocked me. As in basically all countries, you don´t have to go to military service in Turkey if you are good medical or psychological reasons why you are not fit. Apperently being gay is one of those reasons. The biggest shock was how people have to prove that they are gay. In some cases the men just had to talk to a judge, and this was evidence enough. In other cases photographic evidence was required. One man talked about how he had to show a picture of sharing a gay experience with a man. Basically a pornographic picture. The picture was denied as evidence because he didn´t smile enough.

Sick sick sick... How can you make people prove that they are gay in such a way?
