Democracy is not about dividing the state from religion. Democracy is, by definition, about people letting them rule themselves. If Islamic ruling is what the majority of the people want, than the army has no place in fighting that.

What a sad thing, why would somebody stab them? Anyway, I also think the monument is not "freakish". I rather like the modern shapes. Art is subjective.

I think Amy´s lifestyle will destroy what we like about her, her voice. The last performance I saw of her was horrible. She couldn´t remember lyrics and was just half mumbling and wobbling up and down the stage. This way, we WONT enjoy her music for years and years, since she´ll be dead soon. But who knows, maybe she has bettered herself. I haven´t heard anything about her in a while, maybe she cleaned up her act.

Thread: About Armenian Issue

What happened in The Netherlands is not what is written in that piece quoted before. Those party members were not simply kicked out because they said "I don´t believe there was an Armenian genocide". It is a small part of a very big story, and they didn´t simply say "this is what I believe" but made a big fuss about it. A bit like sii

The problem with some of the statements made earlier is that people seem to think that the Armenian issue will cause people to see Turks today as killers. I don´t think Germans are bad people because of the Holocaust! And to be honest, I don´t know anybody who judges the Germans they meet today based on what happened during World War 2. And the Armenian issue even happened decades before that! What influences people´s view of Turks today much more than the Armenian issue is what they see on holiday, unintegrated people they see in big cities in their own countries, integrated people that they have direct contact with, and today´s Turkish politics.

You know what I find striking? That Turks in general always asume that the whole of Europe is against them. Guess what, this isn´t about the Turks today! I don´t get why Turks are so hyper about this issue, when it is clear to all that mass murders took place. Every historian agrees on this, they just debate about the labels put on this mass murder. Turks today are being so sensitive about something, when they should just be happy to be alive, look towards the future and find a way to leave in peace with Armenians, without this standing between them.

I have never been so bored with a debate about something that was so important....

New episode, about emigrants in Istanbul. Immigrants from other countries, but also Kurdish immigrants. Some stories were rather sad, like an African immigrant brought to Turkey by a football manager. Promised a golden career at Besiktas, the man is still unemployment, training his football skills every day hoping that one day Besiktas will call for a try-out. Another interesting story was about Kurds who sell mussels, and Kurdish groups in Istanbul.

It´s difficult for me to find out the exact things that Gülen did wrong. They had a research towards the Gülen movement in the Netherlands, like was said before, to see if it was wrong for the Dutch government to give aid to schools that had some links with this movement. But the research didn´t show anything illegal or dangerous. I have tried to google for criticism of Gülen, but pro-Gülen sympathies are over represented on English and Dutch websites. The only anti-Gülen things I can find are more opinions, but not really stating why these people have opinions. They all talk about a hidden agenda of Gülen, but I just wonder where this all comes from. Does anybody have any links that are not "we love Gülen"?
