I don´t know if this helps you but I always think the negative verb stem is another stem:

         gel|mek - gelme|mek

         kullan|mak - kullanma|mak.

When you want to make a -dik- participle which verb form do you start with: the infinitive. Then drop -mek- and add what you need. Believe me, they are so regular that it is almost dull.

Forget about personal inflection. Use the infinitive. In infinitives the negating suffix is always -me- or its variant. If the person has to be marked as it often has it will come after -dik- as the possessive suffix.

When I used the word ambiguous I didn´t mean there is something wrong with the sentence. Minimalism is the strategy of Turkish language and there are always lexical ways to make the utterance more exact when necessary (like you added üç yıl önce above).

I have a strong trust for natives, scalpel. If the first native gives me an answer that I doubt I can always ask another native... Seriously, I keep asking things only because I can´t keep in mind things that I don´t understand.

An interesting remark, Henry. But don´t you think this difference in form is a result of what the combination is made of:

mısır ekmeği (noun modifying noun makes a compound, the latter word in the queue takes 3rd person possessive suffix)

peynirli ekmek (adjective modifying noun, no changes in the modified).

But now that you mentioned it, isn´t it strange that mısır ekmeği is not like demir kapı (the first noun tells what the second one is made of)?

I believe you, scalpel, but aren´t the sentences ambiguous? What if the necessity was long gone and the main clause action is still to come?
