Vowel harmony is not always  expected in  compound nouns or verbs .[ when more than one nouns or verbs  forms in as one noun or verb ]

 Some  examples ;

ilk  = first

okul = school

İlk +  okul  ---->  İlkokul  -------->   Elementary school.

açık  -  open

göz  -  eye

açık   +  göz  ----->  açıkgöz  ---->  Shrewd [person], canny

yap =  do 

vermek =  to  give 

yap  +   ı +   vermek  ---->  yapıvermek  ------>  to do [make]  something easily, quickly, hastily, rapidly  [verb of haste]

 [Onun]  Niyetinin  kötü    olduğunu    düşünmüyorum.  --->

  I don´t think his/her intention is bad.

 Bunu  yapmaman     gerektiğini    biliyordun.   --------> 

You  knew [that] you shouldn´t have done this.

 Onların    bizi    görmesini [ or, görmelerini ]     sağla.                   -------->

  Make [get] them to see us. 

Doktoru    seyahat   etmemesini   söyledi.          ----------> 

His  doctor  told  him not to travel.

Despite the  unrounded - rounded  harmony  in Turkish words ,  there is some Turkish words that don´t follow this harmony . Those ones are the ones which have  lip consonants in them  [ b, p, m, v ]

  In those Turkish  words that have  b, p, m , v ,   the old vowel "u" was protected  after  "a".

 Tavuk  

 Yağmur 

 Tapu 

 kavur 

 savur 

 avuç 

 çamur

 yavru 

etc..

When you check your vowel harmony,  always focus on the very last vowel of  the word. 

Here our word is "uzun" , what is the last vowel of it ?  it is "u". So take "u" 

The suffix you want to add is second singular person [you] , so  , we have 4 option to choose for, 

sın

sin

sun

sün

and  which one would be harmonic with "u"  ? , Yes,  with given four options , it is "sun".

u ----> u  

   so,  you can attach it onto the word now.

   Uzun +   sun  ===>  Uzunsun  [ You are tall]

Another example ;

We want to say   " You are  Kashf-ul  mean  " 

what is the last vowel  in  Kashf -ul   eman      ?  

     it is  "a"

     going back to our options ;  sın

                                                 sin 

                                                 sun

                                                 sün

a ---->  i     NO

a ---> ı        YES

a  ---> u      NO

a -----> ü     NO 

Kashf -ul   eman  + sın   ----->  Kashf-ul   emansın.   ---->  You are  Kashf-ul  eman.

If  the last vowel of the word  is   a  or  ı    ---->    sın         [ Oradasın,  [Sarısın ] 

                                                     e  or  i   ---->    sin           [ Öğretmensin ,  [ İşçisin  ]

                                                     u   or  o   ---->  sun       [ Uzunsun] ,  [ Japonsun ]

                                                     ü  or   ö  ---->   sün        [ Gürcüsün ], [ Dansözsün ]    

You can use it after  any adjective  as long as  the adjective can be used with   "to be"  or  "to become" 

Mesela ;

Tembel  olmak -  to  become  [to be ] lazy

 Tembel  olmak istemiyorum ---> I don´t want to be lazy.

Güzel  olmak - to be [to become ]  beautiful [nice, fine, good]

Her şey  güzel olacak bir gün. ---> One day  everything will be fine.

Güzel olmak istiyor musun ? --->  Do you want to be [become] beautiful ? 

   ============

Yeşil  olacak - it will be green.

Bu duvarlar  yeşil  olacak  --->  These walls will be in green. [colour]
