girmezdim: negation + aorist + past ´I would not enter.´ (either unreal conditional action or habitual action in the past, I guess the English translation interestingly has the same two meanings also)

Roughly, Turkish participles denote real action while infinitives denote imagined, envisaged action.

That is why infinitives are usually used in manipulative sentences (the action did not take place and it exists only in the mind of the speaker) while participles are at their best in reporting speech and actions. Something like

Anne çocuğun eve gelmesini söyledi. ´Mother told the child to come home.´

Anne çocuğun eve geldiğini söyledi. ´Mother told that the child had come home.´
