There are three different aspects about indirect speech:

1. Reported narration

                        "Ali eve gitti." > Ali´nin eve git|tiğ|i|n|i söyledi. *)

2. Reported commands

                         "Ali eve gitsin." > Ali´nin eve git|me|si|n|i söyledi.

3. Reported questions

                         "Ali eve gitti mi?" > Ali´nin eve gid|ip git|me|diğ|i|n|i sordu. *)

                         OR Ali eve gitti mi sordu.

In indirect speech the subject takes genitive. Always.

May I ask someone to take a look at my attempts. So many possessive suffixes needed this time, let´s see how many I have ignored:

1. The Great Fire of Turku is still the largest urban fire in the history of Finland and the Nordic countries. Turku şehrinin yangını bu zamana dek Finlandiya ve İskandınavya’nın tarihteki en büyük yangın felaketi sayılır. 

2. The fires started burning on 4 September 1827 in burgher Carl Gustav Hellman’s house slightly before 9 p.m. Yangınlar, 4 eylül 1827’de sabahleyin biraz saat dokuzdan önce kasabalı Carl Gustav Hellman’ın evinde başladı.

3. The fire quickly swept through the northern quarter, spread to the southern quarter and jumped the Aura River, setting the Cathedral Quarter on fire before midnight. Yangın, kuzey mahallesinde hızla yayılıp, güney mahallesine uzanıp gece yarısından önce katedral mahallesini alevlendirerek ”Aura” ırmağından atladı.

4. By the next day, the fire had destroyed 75% of the city. Only 25% of the city was spared, mainly the western and southern portions. Yangın ertesi güne kadar şehrin yüzde 75’ini imha etmişti. Sadece şehrinin çoğunlukla batı ve güney bölümlerdeki yüzde 25’i yangından korundu.

8. Most of Finnish archives, including practically all material from the Middle ages, was destroyed in the fire. Finli arşivlerin çoğu, neredeyse Ortaçağa dayanan dokümanların tümü yangın için yok oldu.

9. At the time of the fire, Turku was, and for some time afterwards, too, the largest city in Finland, which is why the Great Fire of Turku was a major national disaster. 10. As a result of the fire, the Imperial Academy of Turku was transferred to Helsinki, the new capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland, thus contributing to the city losing its significance as Helsinki grew. Funny that there is singular here.

This was a good lesson. The limits of a grammatical passive are not the same in Turkish and English (makes sense also) and often in Turkish active is a safer choice for transitive sentences. Thanks again for explaining it, tunci.

Thank you for this reminder, Henry. Somehow I feel Turks don´t like this structure. You don´t see it all the time even though passive voice is in frequent use  -  but Turkish passive is partly impersonal: agent is not an issue in many sentences which are formally passive. So this might be part of the reason. Besides, it is difficult for a learner to "hear" where passive sounds natural and where active should be used instead.

Actually I could write here the sentence I was trying to translate -  what am I saving it for anyway? Is passive good here, what about the agents?

The disaster was made possible by a dry summer preceding the event, a fire-spreading storm rising on the night of the fire, and a lack of extinguishers. Felaket, olaydan önceki yağmursuz bir yaz, yangını yayan fırtınanın yangın gecesinde çıkması ve söndürücülerin az olması tarafından mümkün kılındı.
