Part 74

- That's not possible, Luda! Now, I'll phone him and call him here. Let him come, and we'll learn the reason of this decision from him." saying that I took my cellphone out. Luda held my hand slowly. She had an expression that I couldn't understand on her face. She said:
- Mr Fatih, don't put yourself out in vain. I've been trying to talk to Mr. Shahid since the morning; but his cellphone is off, and he's not answering his home phone either." and sighing she completed her words: "I think that he isn't in Bishkek anymore".
Things were turning more complicated. Why should Shahid leave Bishkek? Also, his not answering his phones didn't necessarily mean that he had left Bishkek. Maybe he was in town and didn't want to answer the phone. At that moment I had an idea, I held her hand and said:
- Get up, Luda, we're going.
The young woman looked at me with asking eyes and replied:
- Where are we going, Mr. Fatih?
- We are going to Shahid's house, Luda. If we can't reach him by telephone; we'll go and find him in his house. We'll find him and demand from him to clarify his reason for his decision. We surely have a right to demand a clarification, don't we? Well, look at the man! I can't understand how he did something like that without even telling me, his closest friend, anything."
Luda's condition has worsened. I noticed that her face blushed slightly. With a trembling voice she began to talk:

Part 73

March, 10 2002
To Kyrgyz- American University Rectorate

Because of very important personal reasons, I have no choice but to leave my duty in your University urgently. I apologize for the probable inconvenience that will emerge because of my sudden leaving in the middle of the education- instruction semester.
I wish my resignation is accepted.

A note: I'd be grateful if my last month's salary would be given to the needy students at the Foreign Language Department.
Dr. Shahid Uluğbekzade".

When I finished reading the short writing, I was really shocked. As if I lost my ability to think in a moment. I didn't know what to say. I became stupid. I stared at Luda's face that way. After a while I gathered myself together a little and began to ask my questions one after the other:
- What is this, Luda? Why did Shahid resign all of a sudden? This is absurd! Is that man crazy? He didn't tell even me anything about this subject... Why did he resign without telling anyone anything?"
Poor Luda, was settling just with moving her head to both sides to express that she didn't know the answers to my questions. Could it be, that something bad happened to Shahid's family in Iran? But as much as I knew, both his parents weren't alive. "Ok then, did he have brothers and sisters?" I thought. I remembered that we've never spoken about that issue. Goodness gracious! But why did that man decide to resign? The best thing was to find him immediately and to learn the reason of that unexpected decision. I looked at Luda. She was sitting with her head bent forward, sad and abstracted:

translation of the lyrics:

It was a years longg yearning
That was burning in my heart
Just when I lost hope
I saw her in front of me

Blue blue deep blue
Her eyes are turquoise blue
The minute I saw her I fell in love
Whose beloved is that (girl) who is coming?

In this road called life
While walking step by step
When looking for happiness
I came across her one day

Blue blue deep blue
Her eyes are turquoise blue
The minute I saw her I fell in love
Whose beloved is that (girl) who is coming?

it's a part of a song:

Mavi Mavi - İbrahim Tatlıses

Yıllardır bir özlemdi
Yanıp durdu bağrımda
Tam ümidi kesmişken
Onu gördüm karşımda

Mavi mavi masmavi
Gözleri boncuk mavi
Bir gördüm aşık oldum
Şu gelen kimin yari

Hayat denen bu yolda
Yürürken adım adım
Mutluluğu ararken
Bir gün ona rastladım

Mavi mavi masmavi
Gözleri boncuk mavi
Bir gördüm aşık oldum
Şu gelen kimin yari

If they shoot a bullet in my heart, I wouldn't die like I did for him/her. The beloved comes to my mind, my universe gets amazed, it's such a yearning that it flows out of me. This heart can live like that for only three days at the most, don't leave it to death, come and take my life yourself.
