I don´t get this sentence. I guess you spelled something wrong. And instead of thanking Catwoman, the consequent step would be for you to translate your post

Quoting Turkish-Teacher

Bize Avrupalılar hep laik derler. Oysa adamlar hrıstiyanız hristiyanız diye bas bas bağırıyorlar. Türkiye´de bi partinin adı Müslüman ... Partisi olsa , şeriat geldi , laiklik elden gidiyor diye kişnerler

oysa şimdi öğreniyorum ki meğer Avrupa´da Hristiyan Demokratlar diye parti ismi bile varmış .

Ay siz de bozmaz o laikliği biz de bozar ...

Though I agree with most of your post, you should know something about the Christian Democrats in Europe (actually Ill give example of Netherlands) and also about the fear of AKP in Europe. Because Christian Democrats arent as orthodox as they sound, and fear of AKP first arouse in Turkey and then came to Europe.

Most strict Christians are against abortion and euthanasia. You would think that a party that calls itself Christian is tehrefore against these things, or at least would want them to become illegal for the Christians you´d think they represent. Neither is the case. This party acknowledges the necessity for abortion and euthanasia and has no wish to make it illegal. The most I ever noticed about them being Christian is their emphasis on family values and their name (for me a reason not to vote for them). Most of such parties have their names as a heritage from a time the Netherlands was divided among ideological/religious lines. Nowadays, they dont carry a strong religious signature.

However, a party called SGP in the Netherlands, calling themselves Reformed christians, they want theocracy in the Netherlands and also don´t let women take seats in the party. I don´t think they should be forbidden (after all its a theocracy and if people vote for them, democracy is the keyword), but their women-policy should be forbidden since it goes against article one of our constitution about discrimination.

The mistake you make in your argument is blaming Europe for being scared of AKP and Islamization. Have you ever spoken to your fellow countrymen? So far all TUrkish people I speak with are anxious about the future of Turkey as long as AKP remains in power. This fear is not a sound Europe´s giving. It is one that first rose in Turkey and then came to Europe (FYI: many western countries think Fethullah Gülen is a great intellectual, so there was no reason for European countries to be afraid of an islamic party that identifies itself with the so called ´moderate teachings´ such as those of Gülen. After seeing reactions in Turkey it became clear Turkish nation itself is in fear of the rise of an islamic party. It wasn´t Europe who went on the streets with red flags against Abdullah Gül. Nor did Europe make cartoons about which headscarf was the most suitable for his wife (the cartoon with the Playboy bunny ears ).

But I do wonder where the EU leaders get this ´Islam vs Christendom´ thing from. I have never heard of people thinking about it that way, and besides the Bible Belt, in the Netherlands it is not that easy to find people of this generation who still identify themselves strongly with Christianity. This insanity should stop.

Unutamadım - Teoman (its originally Barış Manço, but though a great fan of Barış, I honestly think this song is made for a voice like Teoman´s. Just type the title at youtube, it doesnt work here)

Dün yine yapayalnız dolaştım yollarda
Yağmurlarda ıslanan bomboş sokaklarda
Gözlerimde yaş kalbimde sızı unutmadım seni
Unutamadım unutamadım ne olur anla beni

Yesterday I wandered all alone on the roads again

In abandoned (all empty) streets, wet from the rain

Tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart, I didn´t forget you

I couldn´t forget, I couldn´t forget, please! understand me

Unutmak kolay demiştin alışırsın demiştin
Öyleyse sen unut beni yeter ki benden isteme
Gözlerimde yaş kalbimde sızı unutmadım seni
Unutamadım unutamadım ne olur anla beni

You said it is easy to forget, you said ´you will get used to it´

Well if that´s so, you forget me, all I ask is don´t ask that from me

Tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart, I didn´t forget you

I couldn´t forget, I couldn´t forget, please! understand me

Yıllar ikimizden de çok şeyler götürmüş
Sen yeni yuva kurarken beni paramparça bölmüş
Gözlerimde yaş kalbimde sızı unutmadım seni
Unutamadım unutamadım ne olur anla beni

The years have taken many things away from us

When you were building your new home, it tore me into pieces

Quoting Trudy

But it´s a matter of fact that the universal values which are in force in Europe, and which are also the fundamental values of Christianity,

Yeah. We Europeans are all Christians lol

And since when does ´universal´ mean ´everyone but the muslims´ ?

Ridiculous.

Though this was posted before, I´ll add my version as well. Catwoman can try and decide

Ingredients:

- 1 big cup of red lentils (about 200 grams), rinse untill the starch is gone

- 1 onion (medium sized or big, however you prefer the taste of onion to be profound), chopped

- 1 medium sized carrot, grated

- 1 clove of garlic, crushed

- 1,5 spoon of (real) butter (use olive oil if you prefer it less fat, but I think butter tastes better)

- a little bit of flour

- 1 table spoon of tomato or hotpepper paste

- 1 tomato, cut in cubes

- cumin, black pepper, red pepper, isot, salt

- 2 tablets of chicken bouillon (I didn´t find chicken stock here so I use these, wouldn´t know how much chicken stock you should put)

- 1,5 liters of water

Preparation:

- melt the butter in a pan and add the onions, fry them but don´t let them get too golden or they will burn

- stir in well the tomato/pepper paste

- add the crushed garlic

- add the cumin, black pepper and a bit of flour and stir well

- add 1,5 liters of water and stir in the lentils

- add the grated carrot and cut tomato

- dissolve the tablets of chicken bouillon

- once it boils, close the lid

- cook the soup untill the lentils are soft (in a high pressure cooker this will take between 15-25 minutes)

Run the soup through a blender untill it is all nice and smooth and homogeneous. If you like to have pieces to bite, only put half of the soup in a blender and then mix with the rest.

- Taste and add salt after you blend the soup

- Add red pepper and isot according to taste

If you like this to be a more filling soup, you can add potato as well (cut very small or grated), but then you´d need to use a little more water. You can also slice a green pepper slightly and add.

Goes well with thick yoghurt and raw onion.

Afiyet olsun!

Quoting Daydreamer

You, Dutch, have it all wrong. If the month has an "R" in it, it´s good time for getting married lol In Poland we drink a lot of herbal teas and most of the time black tea is served with a slice of lemon (never milk!).

A few years ago I never really saw lemon served with Turkish tea, but many places started to serve it with a slice of lemon now (maybe they did before, but I noticed it for the first time this stay). Dutch also don´t put milk in their tea, I tried once and it really is only fine in strong English tea. Atatürk Orman Çiftliği makes really nice milk, but haven´t found English tea here yet. Also there is a nice green tea with peach and ginger here, nice when you don´t feel like tea but do feel cold

And I don´t get the double K? There is not K (or c for that matter) in alcoholic or shopaholic, or in the turkish alkolik.

Oh well, she is at least a motivation for learners, her turkish pronounciation sucked before she got famous. She seems to have worked on that in quite a short time!

As for the tea, Ekinezya generally doesn´t have a nice taste, I used to hate it when my mom poured some droplets for me and my sister to drink in winter (´when the month has the ´letter R´ in it ´, but there is a new tea on the Turkish market: Ekinezyalı karışık bitki çayı. İt also contains rooibos, lemon and orange zest etc. Im not a big fan of herbal teas, but this one has an acceptable taste Hope it helps! Still taking the dolmuş everyday.. :-S
