Amann! I would like to know this too. My book does explain it a little.. it also tells difference between 'meyi' and 'mayí' (im not too sure if those are right, but it says that there are two types of this kind of suffix, that means 'to -verb-'.)
Such as.. i began to run, i love to swim etc..

But i don't understand the difference. so an explanation would be welcome for me too

But.. what about güzellik?

This is with -ik.. but it's not as in Burnt that it 'happened' to the noun? Or was it "beautified"

Oh wait, güzel is not a noun But i would still like if some of the native speakers could explain it a bit more, just by giving a few turkish sentences with their english translations... Erdinc? Meltem? Cyrano? Anyone? Help? (a)

Erdinç, your story has given me a COMPLETELY different view about this. I always considered it as a stupid patriotic nationalistic 'suppressing' way of teaching young boys hard life. Now i read yours, i see this from a complete different point of view

Ofcourse i will not be happy when my Kadir has got to go, but ey, thats about 10 years from now (a). So enough time for me to get used to it

Again, thanks a lot for telling this

Waar een wil is, is een weg
- Where a will/wish is, is a way!

I will come up with more.. I love proverbs!!

But.. from experience i can say, that MANY proverbs are international
