Verb of essence [ imek ]
The verb “imek” is called as “ verb of essence” . It has different forms.
-idi, imiş
- “imek ” may informs about a state or a condition.
Otelin yatakları temiz + imiş -à Otelin yatakları temizmiş.
[ I was told that ] The beds of the hotel are clean.
It is informing us condition of the hotel beds.
- The verb “imek” comes onto noun case endings.
Mektup biz + e + imiş --à Mektup bizeymiş.
[I was told that, I found out that , I heard that] The letter is for us.
3. The verb “imek ” comes onto proper names.
Rıza Bey + imiş. --à Rıza Bey’miş.
[I was told/I heard that ] It was Mr. Rıza.
Ağaca tırmanan Orhan + idi -à Ağaca tırmanan Orhan’dı.
The person who climed the tree was Orhan.
4. The verb “imek” can come onto –lı or -sız suffix.
Duvar boyalı + idi --à Duvar boyalıydı.
The wall was painted.
Bugün neşesiz + idi. --à Bugün neşesizdi.
You were down today.
5. The verb “imek” can come onto “profession names ”.
Babam denizci + idi à Babam denizciydi.
My father was a sailor.
