Quoting catwoman: You can be angry about the war in Iraq but you are not allowed to preach hatred of the country that feeds you even though you don't work!!! These are two completely separate issues! |
Actually you are - its called freedom of speech and democracy until you become a terrorist.
Catwoman you do make me laugh - the US has a HUGE problem with illegal immigrants. Why are you asking me why the UK don't limit visas etc? Both our countries have the same problem!

Always happy to make you laugh, especially in these difficult times for our countries.
Why is it that whenever we talk about "YOU", you talk about "ME"? I don't really mean you personally, but "you" meaning the other person in the conversation, especially if I'm criticising them. Can we focus on one thing at a time, please...? Is sexism in Poland the reason for sexism in Turkey? I am not very knowledgable about the immigration problems of the US, but I'm not denying that there is one. What does it have to do with immigration problems in the UK...?
I only responded to your statement that there is nothing that can be done to limit illegal immigration, I said that there is a lot that can be done, but for reasons often hidden from us, the government doesn't do it. For example in the US - if there were no illegal immigrants, the economy would probably collapse (or that's what I hear) and the politicians would lose a lot of voters who came here illegally and whose friends and families are illegal. It's a big political game, government lying to us because all they care about is money and power.

CW it is not a case of "I defend myself by attacking you". However your views about the UK in general are pretty clear and, for someone who accuses me of US bashing, its sometimes tempting to throw back the same question to you!!!
I agree there is probably more than can be done and the government has made recent changes. Generally though I don't know what the answer is. Hopefully someone more knowledge in the immigration department has the answer

Kirsty - have you ever disagreed with a Turkish man? Do you never say NO? |

But what makes you think that I like the US immigration laws? There are many things I don't like about the US, including the current government (duh!)! I don't like the "US bashing" because it has become a political strategy in Europe. Most people don't know anything about the US, in fact would love to visit but they already hate the US for reasons they don't even understand.
Please, don't tell me what I think. My views about the UK are not as black and white as you think they are.
Also - people in the immigration department clearly don't know what to do. We can't let the governments decide for us.

Quoting femme_fatal: Quoting Elisabeth: Quoting catwoman: I'm curious how is it possible that this is taking place in the UK despite such strict immigration laws... |
When I watched the video, catwoman, it seems that some of the people they were talking to have been in the UK for 2 or 3 generations. I am not sure how you can live in a country for that long and not be assimilated into society but I think these people will never be happy no matter what you do with/for them. If newly immigrated people are so against democracy....then they need to stay in their homeland. I would never presume to go to an Islamic state to live and try to change their culture. I think there is a certain air of arrogance about people like that. |
