Kuyruklu Yıldız Geliyor -Kometen Kommer- Tove JANSSON

Tove Jansson’un şimdiye kadar ellinin üzerinde dile çevrilen Kuyruklu Yıldız Geliyor ve Büyücünün şapkası adlı kitapları nihayet Türkçeye de çevrildi. Kuyruklu Yıldız Geliyor kitabında Tove Jansson, (bizde Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar’ın, Kuyruklu Yıldız Altında Bir İzdivaç kitabında eğlenceli bir dille kaleme aldığı Halley Kuyruklu yıldızının dünyaya çapacağı söylentilerini çocukların fantastik dünyasında ele alıyor. Her türden canlının, mutlu ve neşeli yaşadıkları Mumi vadisinde bu haberin nasıl çalkalandığını, denizleri kurutup, güneşi solduran kuyruklu yıldızın yarattığı telaşı anlatıyor. Neşenin ve arkadaşlığın yok olduğu, kirletilmiş bir dünyanın nasıl çekilmez olacağı konusunda bizi uyaran Tove Jansson, insanlığı bekleyen felaketten, ancak çocukların sahip olduğu o hesapsız sevgiyle kurtulabilineceğine işaret ediyor. Büyücünün Şapkasında ilk kitapta olduğu gibi bizi yine Mumi Vadisi’ne götürüyor Tove Jansson. Yalnızca dostluk, sevgi ve neşenin hakim olduğu bu vadinin hayali yaratıklarıyla buluşturuyor bizi. Funny, it is comet in every other language but Turks and Finns call it ´star with a tail´. It is probably an invented word in both languages. I am delighted: Moomin books are a good choice to translate to any language from (not-Finnish-but) Swedish.

Notes:

1. Choosing between singular and plural did not get any easier. Like

                              Moominler, büyük yuvarlak burunlarıyla...

even though they have only one each. The use of plural is even more difficult to understand when we talk about mental qualities like

                              Samimiyetlerinin onları sık sık maceralara sevketmesine rağmen...

Can I generalize this rule about body parts?

                              onların burunları/*burnu

3. Definite objects sometimes appear where you expect indefinite:

                               mutluluğu hissedebilir

Do you think Finnish and Turkish are from same language family? Ural-Altaic? Are there common words?

You can´t imagine how many times Turks have asked me this. I am surprised how well Turkish people know the specialities of their own language. Finns generally do not bother their heads with such things.

I am not a specialist but because you ask I answer: no.

The most important reason for me to think this way is  -  as you suggested, gokuyum  -  lack of common basic vocabulary. I think the syntactic similarities between Finnish and Turkish are language universals which to some extent show in all agglutinative languages. They are amazing enough though. No wonder the tools used in language planning are also very much the same (that is why kuyruklu yıldiz = pyrstö|tähti).

And anyway, if there are common roots they are so deep in the ground they have no practical meaning. I am not learning Turkish easily (if that is what you think).

I am not capable of analysing my own language learning but I get an idea when I listen to my Turkish teacher Hatice hanım who speaks excellent Finnish. I analyse her speech constantly: I know why she has difficulty pronouncing our diphtongs, I know why she uses certain pronouns in a peculiar way... But one thing especially has attracted my attention: she is not afraid of long words which other learners of Finnish always complain about, she jumps into the system of word inflection just like she has always been there. That is because she has.

Do you have a Turkish teacher in Finland?

Yes, there is a small group of more or less advanced learners in my home town. And a very good native teacher.

May I ask someone to take a look at my attempts. So many possessive suffixes needed this time, let´s see how many I have ignored:

1. The Great Fire of Turku is still the largest urban fire in the history of Finland and the Nordic countries. Turku şehrinin yangını bu zamana dek Finlandiya ve İskandınavya’nın tarihteki en büyük yangın felaketi sayılır. 

2. The fires started burning on 4 September 1827 in burgher Carl Gustav Hellman’s house slightly before 9 p.m. Yangınlar, 4 eylül 1827’de sabahleyin biraz saat dokuzdan önce kasabalı Carl Gustav Hellman’ın evinde başladı.

3. The fire quickly swept through the northern quarter, spread to the southern quarter and jumped the Aura River, setting the Cathedral Quarter on fire before midnight. Yangın, kuzey mahallesinde hızla yayılıp, güney mahallesine uzanıp gece yarısından önce katedral mahallesini alevlendirerek ”Aura” ırmağından atladı.

4. By the next day, the fire had destroyed 75% of the city. Only 25% of the city was spared, mainly the western and southern portions. Yangın ertesi güne kadar şehrin yüzde 75’ini imha etmişti. Sadece şehrinin çoğunlukla batı ve güney bölümlerdeki yüzde 25’i yangından korundu.

5. The fire destroyed the historical downtown area of Turku, including Turku Cathedral and the main building of the Imperial Academy of Turku, which were badly damaged. Yangın, Turku katedralı ile Turku İmparatorluk Akademisi’nin ana binası bulunan şehrin tarihi merkezini mahvetti.

6. The damage was considerable and was felt for a long period of time in the aftermath of the event. Zarar büyük ve afet sonrasında uzun zamandır hissedildi.

7. 11,000 people were left homeless, and 27 casualties and hundreds of wounded were recorded. 11.000 kişi evsiz kaldı, 27 ölmüş ve yüzlerce yaralanmış kaydedildi.

8. Most of Finnish archives, including practically all material from the Middle ages, was destroyed in the fire. Finli arşivlerin çoğu, neredeyse Ortaçağa dayanan dokümanların tümü yangın için yok oldu.

9. At the time of the fire, Turku was, and for some time afterwards, too, the largest city in Finland, which is why the Great Fire of Turku was a major national disaster. Turku, yangın zamanında ve yangından sonra bile bir müddettir Finlandiya’nın en büyük şehriydi. Bu yüzden Turku’nun yangını büyük bir afetti.

10. As a result of the fire, the Imperial Academy of Turku was transferred to Helsinki, the new capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland, thus contributing to the city losing its significance as Helsinki grew. Turku İmparatorluk Akademisi yangın sonucunda Finlandiya Grandukalığı’nın yeni başkenti olan Helsinki’ye taşıldı. Bu da Turku şehrinin önemini yitirmesi ve Helsinki’nin büyümesine sebep oldu.
