I didnt even read all the posts in this discussion. I am getting tired of those 'discussions' because they dont fit the meaning I have of discussion. İn a discussion you tell each other your ideas in order to come to a conclusion together. Ofcourse, sometimes you cant get to the same idea, so be it. But the idea is to start open-minded and 'LİSTEN' to wat the other has to say, before you nod your head and say no and try to overflow the other with your own arguments.

If Turks say 'leave it to historians and not to politicians' then just leave it to historians. May they be open-minded and genuine about their knowledge. No nation is without blood on its hands. If I was Turkish or Armenian, in both cases I would not be proud. I wouldnt be proud of my history and I wouldnt be proud of my current behavior.

Ohhhh,thank you Aslan2,
Then mA is part of the structure, not the nagative.
But what does it mean then ?

gelmek = to come
gelme = the coming (as a noun, derived from a verb).

So to this verbal noun you can add iyelik ekleri and ismin i-hali.

At least this is what I understand form it

You know you had a bad day when you change your msn nick into 'Saçımı dökeyim sinene, derdimi söyleyeyim' (Let me spread my hair on your chest, let me tell what troubles me. I changed it from the song ıslak ıslak).. though you managed to live with the one you love so deeply.

Moralim bozuk oldu bugün.. yarın daha iyi olsun.

If you took the YÖS exam or if you know someone who did, can you please send me a PM with contact information?

I am really worried about it and I realize that the stress and tensed feeling Ive had for around 2 weeks, is caused by the idea of failing this exam. In highschool I have only really studied languages, music and arts and the mathematics was at a low level as it was not important for me. My brain only works for languages and I just have no ıdea how to prepare and where to start and how not to feel stressed, so talking to someone who took the exam can maybe take away a few of the questions I have.

Thanks in advance...

Tamam. Herkese teşekkür ediyorum

Ben miş'li zamanı çok seviyorum ya, bazen kullanırken (?) tatlı gibi bana geliyor.

"tatlı gibi geliyor" should used together. put "bana" just before "tatlı":

bana tatlı gibi geliyor

or you dont need to say "gibi":

bana tatlı geliyor

by the way, must all girls use the word "sweet" as "nice"?lol

Hehe thank you. ANd i meant to say 'sweet' I didnt mean to say nice İf you ask me, miş can sound rather cute in some situations, thats why I picked tatlı. Could have used şeker too probably, like that one too

Someone please correct? I tried because it looked so easy, not such hard grammar.. but it turned out to be really hard!!! Couldnt find any sentence that I am sure that I translated ocrrect, was hard to catch the meaning!

Quoting Trudy:

Can anyone translate this songtext for me? Teşekkürler!

Yurtseven Kardesler - Gitme Turnam

Gitme turnam bizim evden
Dön gel allahın seversen
Ayrılık
ölümden beter
Dön gel allahın seversen

Dont go from our house, my crane one (?)
Return, come, if you love your god
Separation
Is worse than death
Return, come if you love your god

Gitme turnam
vuracaklar
Kanadını kıracaklar
Seni yarsız
koyacaklar

Dont go my crane one
they will hit (you?)
They will go back on your words (i didnt get this?)
They will 'place you in a position without a friend' (??)

Ikrar verdim dönülür mü
Kalbim hain
görülür mü
Yarsız devran sürülür mü
Dön gel allahın
seversen

I promise, is it being returned?
Is my heart being shown as traitorous?
Is faith going on without a friend?
Return, come if you love your god

Quoting aslan2:

There is a -miş suffix added to the verbs.
gel-miş = they say s/he's come, I see that s/he's come
gelme-miş = they say s/he's not come (yet), I see that s/he's not come (yet)

And there is imiş which is actually -miş suffix added to i- verb (its older form is er-miş, er-mek = to be). imiş has now become a suffix added to the nouns.
güzel imiş or güzel-miş = they say it is beautiful, I see that it is beautiful

güzel değil imiş or güzel değil-miş = they say it is not beatiful, I see that it is not beautiful

Tamam işte.. bende bi soru kaldı.

At school I was taught that miş is öğrenilen geçmiş (!!) zaman. Like..

A: O neden gelmedi?
B: O hastaymış, (ali öyle söyledi)

He was ill, I didnt see it m yself but Ali told me so. But I realized that osmetimes in 'chatty informal' situations it is also used as present time. As in the examples you gave

Güzelmiş = I see that it İS beautiful, that is a present time form?

And when you say Hastaymış, it can mean that he is still ill, right?
