Actually both of them could be possible but depends on the meaning of the sentence and speaker's feelings etc.

Yes, it should be seperate from "babası"

I also agree with Robyn. I do not understand why people don't stick with grammar rules...

Such as the example above and many others. Especially writing "şey" as connected. It is a noun and must be written seperate always. Herşey --> Her şey, Birşey --> Bir şey etc.
