Predicate with copula –DIR

Nouns with  –dIr suffıx  generally function as predicate  in Turkish. Also some adjectives like “yakın” or “uzak”  take predicate function when –dIr suffix is added.

[Also  person names, pronouns , adverbs,.......can function as predicates in a sentence]

- Bu  kız  Fatma’dır. --à This girl is [called] Fatma.

             Predicate

- Bu adam odur. ---à   This man is him.

               Predicate  

- Orası yakındır. --à  That place is near.

          Predicate

- Alışveriş merkezi uzaktır. --à The shopping center must be far away.

                          Predicate

-  Sigara  zararlıdır. -à [Smoking]  Cigarette is harmful.

with portraying  [certain] one of Istanbul´s back streets,

 İstanbul´un arka sokaklarından birini tasvirle 

 with portraying  a certain one of  them  = birini  tasvirle ]

n = buffer

    başarının hayali - n [buffer] - i  [accusative case marking] 

In Turkish language , some verbs that derived from the suffix of –il such as “ayrıl-, devril-…” and are being used by dropping the medium syllable vowel indicates both the feature of “reflexive framework verb” and “passive framework verb”. These verbs convey a “reflexive meaning” when they become the predicate of some sentences and in some sentences, they convey a “passive meaning ” The number of these kind of verbs is 9. They are ;

Ayır -à  ayrıl-

Çevir -à çevril-

Devir -à devril-

Evir -à evril-

Kavur -à kavrul-

Kıvır -à  kıvrıl-

Savur -à  savrul-

Sıyır -à sıyrıl-

Yoğur -à yoğrul-

- Esi [Ası]   var [yok] 

This construction comes onto verb stem to express our desire for doing something. 

It is negated with "yok".

 Verb stem + esi [ası] + Personal marking      +       var   [yok]

  git             +   esi        +    m                            +       var  

  gidesim  var ---> I have desire to  go 

 Bugün  parka  gidesim  var. ---->  I have  desire to go to the park.

                                                     [ I feel like going to the park]

 Yarın işe gidesim yok --->  I have no desire to go to work tomorrow.

                                           [ I  don´t feel like going to work tomorrow]

 Küçük çocuğun süt içesi yok ----> Little child has no desire to drink milk.

 Hiç  matematik çalışasım  yok  ---> I have no desire for studying maths. 

                                                        [ I don´t feel like studying maths]

Complete the following sentences using necessary suffixes/words

1)  Seni burada gördüğüme şaşırdım.

I am suprised to see you here.

2) Davetiyeleri  henüz  göndermediler.

They haven´t sent the invitations yet.

3) Ne olduğunu  öğrenmek  istiyorum.

I want to know what happened.

4)  Onun  masum  olduğundan  eminim. 

I am sure that he/ she is innocent. 

Complete the following sentences using necessary suffixes/words

It would sound more natural if we move the question suffix just  after the time to emphasize it,

Sadece üç aydır mı  buradasın ?

Note : I used the word/verb  depression/to be depressed, since many Turkish dizis give depression/grief  to viewers which people like it.
