Thanks, I will. So the secret meaning is some kind of counter-reality?

___

Oh, no, I can´t possibly get such long paradigms into my old head. There must be a way to see the logic in it. But I quess I got a step further with your examples. The conditional is really a tricky problem, probably because it is so tied to the situation. In its tight packaged informativeness it´s sooo Turkish.

What do you do with gelse, when you have geliyorsa, gelirse, gelecekse, geldiyse and gelseydi and corresponding negative forms. What is the secret meaning which all these tense-marked forms cannot express?

Maybe you two are in a bad mood and maybe I shouldn´t put my spoon into this soup but just for fun I had to check one thing:

Bunun üzerine, Allah onu öldürüp yüzyıl ölü bıraktı, sonra diriltti ve ona sordu: "Ne kadar (ölü kaldın?" (Koran 2:259)

Maybe, just maybe, it is a question of text type?

Besides, as everyone can see, cleaning my language doesn´t need very fine equipment, just a big shovel is enough.

With all my respect.

It´s amazing how long one can make the same simple mistakes. (I´ve been slamming my forehead here.) I think I could have avoided many of the morphology handicaps if I gave it another day or two  -  what´s the hurry anyway? If there is a lesson here it is that I shouldn´t ever listen to my ear when I try to create a Turkish sentence, because it works against me all the time.

Today´s notes:

1. The place of the question word seems to be wrong in many of the questions. This concerns especially niye/neden, which in your corrections is regularly thrown to the left, before the main elements of the sentence. Is there a difference between niye and neden? (My ear tells me there is.)

2. ´The top´ is tepe. How do you end up with the form kilisenin en tepseindeki?

3. I understand if it was şeytanın soyadını but why şeytanın soyadı?

4. başka, diğer and ayrı: I always seem to choose the wrong one.

5. This alternative stucture mı yoksa + mı confused me at first but I think I got it now. Nice way to express it.

P.S. Present continuous is overrated!

JulitaJ,

sınavına belongs together with the word that preceeds it in the text and together they use a compound noun, for instance Türkçe sınavına ´to the Turkish language test´.

As a sign of these nouns forming a unit sınav takes the third person possessive suffix, which in this case according to vowel harmony and other rules is . The final -a is the marker of dative, meaning movement towards. What is between is the pronominal -n- which is used in third person possessive forms between the modified noun and the case marker.

sınav|ı|n|a = root|possessive suffix sg 3rd|pronominal n|dative ending

Behring Breivik asked for an open trial and for a permission to wear a uniform in front of the judge. Fortunately he was denied all publicity. Part of the reason was that they didn´t want to give the man a chance to bring his sick ideas to light in public. In my opinion, a person who blindly kills innocent people and then tries to rise his voice to explain his point should be hit to his mouth with a rifle back.

Societies like those in Scandinavia are vulnerable against this kind of attacks. The Internet gives people a possibility to be in contact in a way never seen before. Unfortunately it unites maniacs, too. We had two school shootings in Finland within two years, and these boys are said to have found their inspiration in violence and misanthropy related sites.

What is worrying is the change of atmosphere which has happened in Europen countries. A few years ago racist talk was a sure way to show one´s lack of culture. Nowadays these "immigration critics" are considered respectable citizens and even educated people are accompanying them at least silently. Maybe what happened in Norway will open some eyes. If it was an al-Qaida attack there would be a hell loose here.

I was trying to practice questions but got stuck in a couple of them. They are just too difficult for me. Still I’d like to see them translated because I put some effort of them and now I feel irritated.

How important does a person have to be before he is considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
