Dear Lyndie, I want to wish you a very happy birthday. After all this hard work, I wish for you to get what you always dreamt of. When you come to İzmir, please let me know. This city is too beautiful not to be shared :) (ps - I tried to open this thread yesterday, but it kept saying Script Error or something? So İm sorry that Im a day late..!)

Sana bi şey söyleyeyim mi? Neden Türkçede yazmadım? Çünkü ben pratık yapmak istemedim şimdi, ben sana cevap vermek istedim, sana benim fikrim anlatmak istedim. Normal bir şekilde, yaptığım gibi, bir fikri anlatmak, asla kaba olmaz. Sadece fikrim söyledim, yardım etmek için (başka bir açıdan bakarken, belki böylece düzeltmek sana da faydalı gelsin diye) seni sinirlendirmek hiç istemedim. Bunu anladığın için üzgünüm.

Bod 'dogru mu yanlış mı' diye sordu. Böylece sık sık soruyor, o yüzden bir dilbilgisi soru olduğunu anladık. Evet, dilbilgisi hakkında bir soruydu. Bence zaten tartışacak bir konu değil: bir dil ögrenince, beraber konuşmak gerek.

Neden ben Türkçe konuşmadım? Çok basit: ben Türk değilim ve o yüzden bir hata yapmak şimdi istemedim çünkü bir şey anltamaya çalıştım. Hiç olmadığı, başarımadığım şimdi belli oldu maalesef.
Benim anadilim de İngilizce değil, benim anadilim Hollandaca. Ama bu sitenin iki anadili var: İngilizce ve Türkçe. O yüzden İngilizce konuştum. Ya da Hollandaca konuşmamı ister misin?

Bence sen herkes düsman gibi görüyorsun. Biz sadece fikirlerimiz paylaşıyoruz, daha iyi anlaşmak için, daha iyi öğrenebilmek için. Başka bir şey yok.

Seni incitmeyi istemedim, özür diliyorum o yüzden. Ama bana kaba olduğu dediğin için beni incittin. Buna gerek yoktu. İyi çalışmalar sana.


(Korkma, isteyenler düzeltebilirler tabii ki Çok minettar olacağım. Belki bu konuşmanın bir faydası olacak böylece )

The letter R is indeed a bit confusing. Im not a native, but from what I heard around here:

- When in the middle of a word (but not between two vowels), like kıRmızı,aRtık, it is like the english R.
- When at the beginning or end of a word, gidiyoR, it is pronounced by curling your tongue a bit behind your teeth, producing a sound (youre not really rolling it, and that is why sometimes it sounds like th, like whistling).
- When between two vowels, geRi, ankaRa, the same as before but this time more rolling.


This may sound a bit confusing and I couldnt explain it clearer (I dont know the arabic R, but the turkish R is definitely not a throat-r). It depends on the words so all you can do is listen to songs radio and television. Eventually you will get used to it and pronounce the R in new unheard words also correctly.

LCT, practice is useless if there is nobody to correct your mistakes. If you make mistakes when practising and nobody tells you, eventually it will be hard to kick these mistakes out of your system.

Yes, sometimes you have to make 'correctless' practise, so that you can become more fluent, but asking someone to overlook your mistakes (something Bod did not ask, because as he is been doing this for a long time we all know the deal) is very helpful. Not only for you, but also for the learners who can read other peoples corrections.

Ingredients:

100 gram plain flour
25 gr cornstarch
6 eggs, yellows n whites seperated
175 white sugar
2 limes (actually any citrus-fruit will do)
250 ml (un)whipped cream
3 packs vanilla sugar
150 gram of thick yoğurt like the Turkish one
500 gram strawberries, cut in 4 (save some for the top)

Preparation:

- Preheat oven on 175 degrees.
- Beat the egg-whites and 150 grams of the sugar together with a handmixer.
- In another bowl, beat the egg-yellows till they turn lightyellow
- Carefully mix these two mixtures with a wooden spoon.
- Add the flour-cornstarch while sieving (?) untill they are absorbed.
--- Put this mixture in a baking tin (round, around 25 cm)
and let it bake for around 40 minutes till its ready and gold. When done, let it cool down.

- Clean the limes and grate their skin.
- Prepare the whipped cream together with the vanillasugar, add the yogurt and the grated lime and mix carefully. (keep some grated lime aside)
- Press the juice out of the two lemons and mix with the rest of the white sugar.
- Cut the cake and sprinkle the lime-sugar juice over the two halfs.
- Put the underhalf on a plate and spread one/third of the yogurt cream over it. Divide 3/4 of the strawberries over it and put the other cake half on.
- Then spread the rest of the cream on top of it and on the sides.

- According to what you want, decorate with some strawberries around it, and some grated lemon in the middle. Kiwi on it looks very nice too, you can also put sliced kiwi on the sides, it will stick in the cream.

I found this recipe ages ago, but changed some other kind of cream for the yogurt, because I think its nice and fresh with the lime for the summerdays! Its really easy and ready within an hour! Enjoy!

İzmirli misin sen? Haha Balçovadaki Kipa çok güzel olmuş aslında, artık Kipa değil: KAM oldu Kipa Alışveriş merkezi. KFC falan bile var Çiğlideki kadar büyük değil ama hala çok büyük Ben artık kursa gitmiyorum, ama Bornova hala güzelmiş, sanırım Güneş sıcak bir yorgan gibi kendisini koydu, güzel izmirin üstüne, şehir çok daha güzel bir şiir oldu bu günlerde..

Preparation

Add the grapes, rum, diced tomatoes, salt and red pepper, and stir. Let it simmer on half fire with the lid closed for about 15-20 minutes.

When the chicken is boiling, cut the pinapple in cubed, cover it with breadcrumbs (you know, the ones you can buy for frying, ready in a package) and fry the pineapple in the butter (these ingredients were not on the ingredient list tho ).

Put the safran-pilav (not mentioned before but easy to make) on a big plate and ‘spread it’. Put the chicken pieces over the rice and pour the sauce. Decorate it with the pineapple and orange slices and serve.



- Doesnt sound too difficult to me and im a zero (well, maybe a 1 these days) in the kitchen!
