Thread: Word for "God"?

Quoting christine_usa:

I do understand most Turks are Muslim, but is "Allah" a general term for God, or is it a term only Muslims use. For example, would a Christian turk, or Jewish Turk use the word "Allah" or a different Turkish word for God.

Thanks!

Someone please check if this is right..

I think only the Muslim-god can be called Allah.

I think tanrı is the general word for god, which can also be used for Allah.

But I think that exclamations, such as 'Allah allah!' or 'Tanrım!' , would both translate into English as 'Oh my god/ Oh my dear lord / oh my goodness'.

Chantal, looks like you are going for 2 weeks then! If I'm not in Holland then.. please consider a short trip to Izmir too It's not too far from Balıkesir! Or Kadir and I could come visit you there

I hope to go to Holand around Christmas, but it depends on Kadir's holiday. If it is like last 2 years, the holidays are in the first two weeks of january instead of the last two of december..

Then if I had it taken away

That would be the end of me.
Says enough about my relationship with the internet I guess..

+1

I used to chat with Kadir till 4 in the morning and then had to get up at 7 to go to school. I regulated that now, but still.. I can't NOT post at TC! I am supposed to go downstairs for coffee with my mum before I go away for the weekend.. but I just need to take a look here if I got a PM or something!

MSN is my biggest addiction, it is almost always on. It keeps me away from doing homework or cleaning up my room.

But.. I met Kadir on it. And through this website I made many lovely friends. I don't stay up here that late anymore (well.. just last night.. but Marzena lives in the US so you have different tiems of being online!) and I do eat and sleep

So now I'm really off for a coffee

prenses... i don't think u should have posted that on a forum. i think u will get this post deleted.

if you have any problems with miss ceyda, please private message her and not post it on the forum.

thanks.

Well-said Gezbelle.

I'm amazed that new members fire off this way to members that have been here for such a long time. It seems like they seriously have a problem themselves, as they spend their time trying to make everybody believe Ceyda is lying.

Prenses, what a huuuge story you wrote. Don't you think it is a waste of your time trying to convince people who know Ceyda for a long time, when you actually don't believe the story ányway?

And about being decent, your story was everything bút decent.

Nobody here is judging ALL the people who get pregnant young or have an abortion, though I think one should take the responsibility nót to get pregnant. If you're mature enough to actually have sex, you should be mature enough to deal with the consequences. But these are just my thoughts.
Young pregnancy, in many (not all) cases, shows a lack of responsibility among young girls who live in situations like Ceyda described. This doesn't necessarily mean that all young mothers are irresponsible or have a bad homesituation in which their parents don't raise them well in healthy behavior. Please don't mix up two things. No one here judges people from young pregnancy. But combined with Ceyda's story, we all have a fair point of view.

If you expect any help from members on this website, Prenses, start treating them with decency.

"I have missed you so much, just know this. Neither the stars nor the beaches are enough for my longing. You're in the most beautiful and deepest part of my heart. I kiss you from your lips."

I think Meltem's translation 'just know this', should take your worries away

See, this is the problem of literal translation. It literally said 'know this is enough', but the emotional worth of these words in English is different. Therefore a better translation would be like the one Meltem gave

So stop worrying and send something sweet back

it isnt pork as turks don't eat pork!

That isn't quite true is it???
Muslim Turks don't eat pork - but not all Turks are Muslim.....

Let's not pick on words

Pork is rare in Türkiye as the majority is Muslim. Kadir is not muslim, but because it's not sold much and not common to eat, he is not used to it and doesn't like the taste.. thus he doesn't eat it at all actually. (only bacon when we had a fry-up at my house )

I love DUMAN!

Once I got the chance to be in their concert, very near to the stage. It was wonderful, very very amusing, they really make you have a good time. Just, they are a bit drug addicted

Haha well they just behave like stars

Kadir told me that TeomaN is trying to have a regular life and that sometimes he is all drunk and lame in clubs and stuff
