PS you can also put endings on it e.g. gibisin = you are like

melek gibisin
You are like an angel

manken gibidik
We were like fashion models

It means "like", or "similar to".

The object of givi goes before it:

e.g. Istanbul gibi bir şehir

A city like Istanbul

Onun gibi insanlar

People like him/her

Annem gibi beni sevenler

Those who love me like my mother
