Thread: A VERY TRICKY QUESTİON

I forced myself not to look for the answer from somewhere but my guess is the list is about the same. Plus some neutral and peaceloving countries which are giants in this business in spite of their small size. Like Sweden.

acikladim sana ozurde diledim, digerlerinden bahsetmeyelim artik. Seni uzmek istemem, sen uzulursen bende uzulurum...

bunlari dusunmekte haklisin ama bilmelisinki senimle ilgili dusuncelerim ve duygularim cok farkli

My Try:

I explained it to you and apologized also, let´s not talk about others any more. I don´t want to sadden you. If you are upset I am upset too.

You are right when you think about these things but you should know what I think and feel about you is something quite different.

Kalır gibi gidişlerini izledim önce, sonra gider gibi kalışlarını..
Ve anladım ki ne sen gidebiliyorsun ne ben kalabiliyorum.

Öyle bir hayat yaşıyoruz ki şimdi;ağlamak gülmenin mahkumu.

gülmek ağlamanın gardiyanı gibi sanki...

My Try:

Before I was tracing outgoings which were like staying, later stays which were like going. And I understood neither you are able to go nor I can stay. That´s the life we are living now: cry is the prisoner of laughter, as if laughter is the guard of cry.

(Very ambiguous, this needs a native English speaker. I wonder why I ever touched it.)

...if you had the chance to choose? How important is it to you? Have you written it in your will?

Don´t worry, I even found a reason for it...I am a grammar rat you know.

Could you answer nr 3, please. I have often been wondering this question.

Notes:

1. Compass points are nouns!

2. Yaz´ın ortasında: I was wondering why the apostrophe was used here. My guess is it is there to separate genitive from instrumental (yazın ‘in the summer’ ).

3. başkan ve ailesi misafirleriyle  tatıl için Naantali’ye geldiklerinde: There is a reason for plural here (ve), but if there was only başkan misafirleriyle would the predicate have to be plural?

4. güllerin kokuları ve renkleri: Who says Turks don’t like plurals?

Eline sağlık, tunci. Thank you especially for saving the red ink. I will check the corrections carefully and come back later with some notes or questions.
