Why doesn´t "istemek" want the 4th case? I mean, you always want SOMETHING, right, so shouldn´t this something be in the 4th case / accusative case?

But it does.

istemek
1. /ı/ to want, desire, wish.
2. /dan, ı/ to ask (someone) for (something).
3. /ı/ to ask to see or talk to (someone).
4. to be necessary; to require.
5. /ı/ to ask for (a woman) in marriage.

The definite object takes ACC when accompanied with istemek.

                              Bu gömleği istiyor musun?

Benim onu satın almamı istiyor musun?

The simplest istemek construction where the subject of both istemek and the other verb is one and the same can be (and usually is) built with simple MEK infinitive.

                               Her sabah pazara gitmek istiyorum.

bilmek BTW behaves the same way. They are the only two exceptions to the rule but they occur very frequently of course so it is necessary to know this.

And how should this be interpreted...the power of the army is decreasing maybe.

I recently read an acticle about the Turkish military service. Some problems like bullying and boys committing suicides during the service (934 casualties in ten years, more than in the battle fields) were previously silenced but now discussed more openly.

Of course it is subject.

Yes but its role is not the most typical one (actor) and I feel uncertain to translate sentences like this constituent by constituent.

katkı sağlamak sounds like a very useful construction, I will keep it in mind.

Thank you, burakk, ikicihan, gokuyum.

The months at the hospital did little to arrest the disease.

(Can aylar be the grammatical subject here?)

AFP news agency relates the cult of Saparmurat Niyazov is coming to its end. The monument of the dictator disappeared from its place in the center of Ashgabat on Wednesday. Ruhnama will not be taught at schools any more.
