Yeah it looks like both of them work but why only for third person plural? Only a misuse of suffix can explain it. This misuse became common in time I guess.

It must have something to do with the double life of LAR as a plural marker and as a personal ending.

LAR looks confusingly innocent but learners be warned it is not.

Thread: Can Yucel - Gitmek - Help please

My Try:

Bu günlerde herkes gitmek istiyor
Küçük bir sahil kasabasına
Bir başka ülkeye, dağlara, uzaklara...

Everyone wants to go these days  -

to a small coastal town,

to another country, to the mountains, far away.

*************

Hayatından memnun olan yok.
Kiminle konuşsam ayni şey...
Herşeyi, herkesi bırakıp gitme isteği.

There is no one who is happy with his life.

No matter who I talk to it is the same…

what I always find is the wish to leave everything and everyone and go.

***************

Öyle "yanına almak istediği üç şey" falan yok.
Bir kendisi
Bu yeter zaten.
Herşeyi, herkesi götürdün demektir..
Keske kendini bırakıp gidebilse insan.
Ama olmuyor.

There is no such thing as ”the three things one wants to take along”.

You only want to take yourself,

that is enough.

It means you have left behind everything and everyone.

If only a human being could go and leave himself behind

but it is impossible.

****************

Hani kendimizden razıyız diyelim, öteki de olmuyor.
Yani herşeyi yüzüstü bırakmak göze alınmıyor.

Well let’s say we comply with ourselves, there is no other choice,

that is to say we do not take the risk of abandoning everything.

*****************

Böyle gidiyoruz işte.
Bir yanımız "kalk gidelim",
öbür yanimiz "otur" diyor.
"Otur" diyen kazaniyor.
O yan kalabalık zira...
iş, Güç, sorumluluk, çoluk çocuk, aile,
Güvende olma duygusu...
En kötüsü alışkanlık
Alışkanlığın verdiği rahatlık,
Monotonluğun doğurduğu bıkkınlığı yeniyor.
Kalıyoruz...
Kuş olup uçmak isterken, ağaç olup kök salıyoruz.

That is how we are going:

one part of us says “go for it and leave”

while the other part says “stay”.

The one that says “stay” wins.

That is because that side is busy…

work, power, responsibility, wife and kids, family,

the feeling of being safe.

The worst thing is routine,

the ease that routine gives,

it surmounts the boredom of the squirrel cage.

We stay.

While hoping to fly like a bird we root in the ground like a tree.

**************

Evlenmeler...
Bir çocuk daha doğurmalar...
Borçlara girmeler...
işi büyütmeler...
Bir köpek bile bizi uçmaktan alıkoyabiliyor.

Marriages,

another child being born,

debts,

growing businesses,

even a dog can withhold us from flying.

***************

Misal ben...

Me for instance…

*****************

Kapıdaki Rex´i bırakıp gidemiyorum.
Değil bu_şehirden gitmek,
iki sokak öteye taşınamıyorum.
Alıp götürsem gelmez ki...
Bütün sokağım köpeğim olduğunun farkında
Herkes onu o herkesi seviyor.
Hangi birimizle gitsin?

I cannot go and leave Rex at the door.

Let alone going away from this town  -

I cannot even move two blocks away.

If I took him away he would not come.

The whole street has noticed I have a dog,

everyone loves him, he loves everyone.

Which one of us should he go with?

*****************

"Sırtında yumurta küfesi olmak" diye bir deyim vardir;
Evet, sırtımızda yumurta küfesi var hepimizin
Kendi imalatımız küfeler.

There is a saying that one has a basket of eggs on his back.

Yes, we all have a basket of eggs on our backs  -

a basket we have made for ourselves.

*******************

Ama e
ğreti de yaşanmaz ki bu dünyada.
Ölüm var zira.
Ölüme inat tutunmak lazim.

But one cannot live for the time being either

because death exists.

One must hold on just to stand against death.

**************

Barik ufak kaçışlar yapabilsek.
Var tabi yapanlar, ama az
Sadece kaymak tabakası
Hepimiz kaçabilsek...
Bütçe, zaman, keyif... Denk olsa.
Gün içinde mesela...
Küçücük gitmeler yapabilsek.

I wish we could make tiny getaways.

Some people do of course, but they are few,

only a few privileged people.

I wish we could all escape.

Budget, time, pleasure…if only there was a balance.

If we only could make small passages

within a day for instance.

******************

Ne mümkün
Sabah 9, aksam 18
Sonra baska mecburiyetler
Sıkışıp kaldık.
Sırf yeme, içme, barınmanın bedeli
Bu kadar ağır olmamali.

What can we do:

from 9 o’clock in the morning till 6 o’clock in the evening.

After that other duties.

We are jammed.

It just cannot be this expensive

to eat, to drink and to take a shelter.

*****************

Hayatta kalabilmek için bir ömür veriyoruz.
Bir ömür karşılığı, bir ömür yani.
Ne saçma...
Bahar midir bizi bu hale getiren?
Galiba.

We spend a lifetime trying to stay alive,

that means paying a lifetime for a lifetime.

What a load of rubbish!

Is it spring that makes us this way?

Maybe so.

**************

Ben her bahar aşık olmam ama
Her bahar gitmek isterim.
Gittigim olmadi hiç.
Ama olsun... istemek de güzel.

I don’t fall in love every spring

but every spring I want to go.

That never happened

but never mind…it is nice to want it also.

If quot comes first, before THE MAN ASKED HIS FATHER, then you use "diye"..

How can it come first? I never knew there is such an option. No one told me before. {#emotions_dlg.suspicious}

Abla, I think if we change the punctuation in #1 it makes sense, and also has a connection to #2.

"Şans, donanımlı olanın yanındadır." Birine, "çok şanslı" dediğinizde bir daha düşünün.

Luck helps those who are equipped/prepared. Think twice before you say to someone "you are very lucky".

Yes, Marion, you must be right. yanında olmak is an idiom here, and now that mysterious -dır also gets its meaning.

But even after your correction the sentence looks like higher philosophy to me. {#emotions_dlg.doh}

Turkish grammatical terminology seems to be conflicting with international terminology

Of course  -  every language has its specialities  -  but when you try to look deep enough you begin to see the similarities also.
