I couldn't find a verb 'to raise' as in money either.

If you're asking me,I have no idea. I started so that I could say some things to people I know there, then I got hooked. Anyway at my age learning keeps the brain active.
It has also been invaluable on subsequent visits there especially in Eastern Turkey.

I can't believe you guys can't learn! Several of us on this site have had to teach ourselves with no help from any other Turkish speakers. I started with a grammar book-Teach Yourself Turkish and learned the grammar rules,how to conjugate verbs etc. Since then I have bought more grammar books and I read, read and then re-read.
After about two years I am competent enough to communicate whilst in Turkey and do translations on this site.
I'm so jealous that you have your own live-in tutors! Just get on with it!
