You are all wrong {#emotions_dlg.razz}

What do you means by "to have the best". You mean "to have the best opponent"?

Quoting trip

Merhabalar! I know you are probably tired of Fikret Kızılok by now, but I can´t help myself. So, here is another of his songs: "Haberin Var Mı?" There are two versions of this song. One has words that were perhaps written by Fikret. The other has words by the poet Ahmed Arif (yes, I have discovered another of Turkey´s famous poets!) and carries the alternate title "Kör Pencere." This version ends with a very swinging 1970s instrumental that seems to be called "Ay Battı." I´ve tried to translate both sets of lyrics. Please correct my mistakes.

Unfortunately, the only recording I can find of both versions together is on YouTube. But I will also include a link for an Izlesene video for "Haberin Var Mı" alone.

Both versions together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zE0Au8GHTY

"Haberin Var Mı?": http://www.izlesene.com/video/fikret-kizilok-haberin-var-mi-1974/896431

Haberin Var Mı? -- Do You Have News?

Haberin var mı? -- Do you have news?
Terk etmedi sevdan beni -- Your passion has not left me.
Aç kaldım, susuz kaldım gecelerce -- Night after night, I have remained hungry, I have remained thirsty.

Geceler geceler -- For nights and nights.

Yastığımda, düşümde, içimdesin -- On my pillow, in my dreams, you are within me.
Bir hain bıçak gibi kalbimdesin -- Like a treacherous knife, you are in my heart.
Dermanı yoktur bilirim -- It has no cure, I know.

Tütünsüz, uykusuz kaldım -- I have remained without tobacco, without sleep.

------------------------

Kör Pencere -- Blind Window
Ay Battı -- The Moon Has Set

Haberin var mı? -- Do you have news?
Taş duvar, demir kapı, kör pencere, -- Stone wall, iron door, blind window.
Yastığım, ranzam, zincirim, -- My pillow, my bunk, my chains.
Uğruna ölümlere gidip geldiğim --Zulamdaki mahzun resim. --.
The sad photo which is in my hiding place, which I have almost died many times for its sake
Görüşmecim yeşil soğan göndermiş -- My visitor seems to have sent green onions.
Karanfil kokuyor cigaram -- My cigarette smells of cloves.
Dağlarına bahar gelmiş memleketimin ... -- To the mountains of my country, spring apparently has come.

Quoting trip

Merhabalar! I am back with another Fikret Kızılok song, but I´m pretty sure I´m in way over my head this time. I suspect this song is filled with idioms, because just when I think I´ve found the definitive meaning for a phrase, I look in the dictionary and find another possibility. You´re going to have to help me here!

The Veysel mentioned in this song is the famous poet and minstrel Aşık Veysel Şatıroğlu, I think. Am I right? I know that Fikret got to know Veysel not too many years before the latter died in 1973. From what I have read, Veysel inspired Fikret to leave behind experimental, electronic sounds and go down a more traditional path.

This song seems to say that Veysel understood that life is about joy (although I think many of his songs were rather sad, weren´t they?). Veysel´s last name means "son of good spirits," or something of the kind, doesn´t it? And then there is the title of the song: "Don´t Shut Your Eyes as If Your Blind." (Is that right?) It´s interesting that Veysel was in fact blind for most of his life.

Işte çevirim:

It is not easy to translate. It is not always understandable who is doing what.

Yumma Gözün Kör Gibi -- Don´t Shut Your Eyes as If You´re Blind

Kimine at vermiş eştirir gezer -- To some people, he gave a horse. He makes it trot and he wanders
Kimine aşk vermiş coşturur gezer   -- To some people, he gave love. He stirs excitement, he wanders
Kimine mal vermez koşturur gezer   -- To some, he doesnt give riches. He makes him struggle, he wanders
koşturur gezer   -- He makes him struggle
koşturur gezer   -- He makes him struggle
Sanki bunu zengin etmek zor gibi   -- As if it is difficult To enrich this one
Sanki bunu zengin etmek zor gibi   -- As if it is difficult To enrich this one
zooooooooor gibi   -- As if it is difficult
Bir kısmına yayla vermiş köy vermiş   -- For one portion( to some people), he gave a mountain pasture, a village
Bir kısmına büyük büyük pay vermiş   -- For one portion, he gave a huge share
Sevdiğine güzellikle boy vermiş   -- For the one who he loves, he gave height and beauty
boy vermiş   -- he gave height
boy vermiş  -- he gave height
Al yanaklar şule verir nur gibi  -- Ruddy cheeks yield a flame, wonderously radiant.
Al yanaklar şule verir nur gibi  -- Ruddy cheeks yield a flame, wonderously radiant.
nuuuuuuuuur gibi  -- Wonderously radiant.
Kimine saz vermiş çalar eğlenir  -- To some people, he gave saz. They play and enjoy themselves.
Kimi zevk içinde güler eğlenir  -- Some people laugh in pleasure and enjoy themselves.
Veysel gözyaşları siler eğlenir  -- Veysel wipes away the tears and enjoys himself.
siler eğlenir  -- He wipes away the tears.
siler eğlenir  -- He wipes away the tears.
Yeter gayrı yumma gözün kör gibi  -- That´s enough! Don´t shut your eyes as if you´re blind.
Yeter gayrı yumma gözün kör gibi  -- That´s enough! Don´t shut your eyes as if you´re blind.
köööööööööör gibi  -- As if you´re blind.

Ben artık hiç gitmeyecek birini istiyorum. Her şeyimi anlatacağım,her şeyini bileceğim birini.

I want a person who will never go away, who I can share everything with, who I know everything about, who I will never tell a lie about my life and myself, who will never lie. I dont say that he must be always beside me. I can cry on phone too. I can be beside him that way. No matter who, let one enter into my life and let him never leave.

Thanks so much!

So there´s not different present tenses in turkish? What you often do and what you are doing at the moment is the same?

There are tenses. But sometimes there is not a very strict seperation between them as in English.

My mother tried to call a few times. But after she hadnt succeded she told me. She will cook mantı on monday as usual and she says she wishes Yavuz to be here. If you are not busy and if you can come she will be very happy.

Thanks a lot, the mystery just gets bigger...

It actually comes from my textbooks and the full sentence reads...

Senin için saçımı süpürge ettim

I even used my hair like a broom for you. This is a saying and like metioned above it means "I showed an extraordinary effort to please you".
