The more I think about this form of an apology the more I like it. The saying has its roots in Islamic teachings which AlphaF made clear above but in my opinion it is also psychologically very authentic.

1. The speaker admits that the listener´s rights have been violated. Not just feelings or pride but rights. He/she had the right to be be treated better.

2. Because it is his/her rights we are talking about it is completely up to him/her if he/she wants to forgive or not.

3. It doesn´t say forget, leave it to the past, such things happen now and then. It says make it halal. What is halal is not forbidden, not a sin, not something one has to blaim him/herself about. The speaker is actually asking the listener to clear the air from all bitterness.

I wonder if this saying is translated from Arabic (I never heard it but maybe our Arab members did) or if it is a pure Turkish output.

Thank you for this, gokuyum. The inevidable change of lifestyle is often the motif of folk poetry. Sadly it also reflects the misery and loss of those who would like to stick to the past.

When I say Golden Orange what always comes to my mind is Nurgül Yeşilçay who got mad because of not receiving the award and said: "I seems that I have eaten the orange."

-Iyor shows that the action is continuous or progressive. It is not a present tense marker because present tense is unmarked.

Combined with the past tense marker -DI- it denotes a past tense action which was continuous or gradual. Like Kitap okuyordum ´I was reading a book/books, I took my time, it doesn´t matter if I completed it or not because it is not the issue here´.

The reflexive görünmek means ´appear, look like´ also. If I suggest görünmek with adjectives (güzel görünüyor), passive görülmek with participle structures is it close to the truth?
