Cool tattoos, I really like them. Where are you going to have your next one??

Thanks in advance

gerçekten beðendim, çok güzel dövmeler. Bir sonrakini nerene yaptýracaksýn?

(the second sentence is actually the translation for "To which part of  you, will you have your next one made?" because the direct translation for "Where are you going to have your next one?" doesn´t make sense.)

Below is the exercise provided by the class.  I am not quite sure I understand the difference.  Can someone please enlighten me?  The only posible difference i see is the use of "dan" instead of "den" which is due to major vowel harmony based on the last vowel in the word.   Why is okul different and how? Thank you.

**************************************************************************

The ablative case has four version, -den, dan, -ten, -tan. It means "from".

If you would add the ablative case to the four nouns below, they would mean: "from holiday", "from school", "from home", "from the sea".

Only one of them takes a different version of the ablative case. Which one is it? Try to explain to yourself the reason for it.

A. tatil (Correct answer is okul)
B. okul
C. ev
D. deniz

maybe you should read about major vowel harmony again:

http://www.turkishclass.com/turkish_lesson_59

Hard Soft
a e
ý i
o ö
u ü

you see the hard and soft vowels above. Only "okul" has a hard vowel in the last syllable, so it becomes "okuldan" while others become "tatilden", "denizden", "evden".

Please can someone point out the essential difference between the following sentences:-

(1)   Dün akþam konsere gidemediniz mi?

(2)   Dün akþam konsere gidemez miydiniz?

(3)   Amerika´ya mektup yazmadýlar mý?

(4)  Amerika´ya mektup yazamaz mýydýlar?

Thank you.

Tazx1

first of all, in a regular sentence, "soru eki" should be like I have corrected.

the difference between "gidemediniz mi" and "gidemez miydiniz" is that, in the first one it is asked if they couldn´t go (not sure if they went or not). In the second one, it is known that they did nto go, and it is asked if there was not any chance to go.

I think "Couldn´t you go to the concert last night?" can be interpreted in both ways so could be the translation for both. however, the second one could be better translated as "Wouldn´t you be able to go the concert last night?"

e.g.

Geçen yýl tatile gidemedim. (I was not able to go on a holiday last year; Maybe I had a chance but I did not go. )

Geçen yýl tatile gidemezdim. (I wouldn´t be able to go on a holiday last year. It was impossible for me - mostly because of things out of the person´s own control. it was clear that I did not have any chance)

please not that "-emezdim" could mean also in that way (although not in your examples):

18 yaþýndan önce tek baþýna tatile gidemezdi.

She was not allowed to go on a holiday herself before she was 18.

It is something like  - ´what are you doing, where are you, are you living? Are you aware that we didn´t speak for 666 years?  Are you aware of danger?

(But I am only learning so if it makes no sense to you probably best to wait for a native speaker or someone more advanced)
