This poem is a little bit obscene. Beware !
DEDİM DEDİ  I SAID, SHE SAID

Sabahtan uğradım ben bir fidana I went to visit a sapling this morning
Dedim mahmur musun, dedi ki yoh yoh. I said "Are you sleepy?" She said "No, no!"
Ak elleri boğum boğum kınalı Her white hands were knotty and hennaed
Dedim bayram mıdır, dedi ki yoh yoh. I said "Is it festival?" She said "No,no!"

Dedim inci nedir, dedi dişimdir I said "What is a pearl?" She said "My tooth"
Dedim kalem nedir, dedi kaşımdır I said "What is a pencil?" She said "My eyebrow."
Dedim on beş nedir, dedi yaşımdır I said "What is fifteen?" She said "My age"
Dedim daha var mı, dedi ki yoh yoh. I said "Is it more?" She said "No, no!"

Dedim ölüm vardır, dedi aynımda I said "There is death" She said "In my eyes"
Dedim zulüm vardır, dedi boynumda I said "There is cruelty" She said "On my neck"
Dedim ak sineler, dedi koynumda I said "White breasts" She said "On my chest"
Dedim sevebilsem, dedi ki yoh yoh. I said "Can I love?" She said "No,no!"

Dedim Erzurum nendir, dedi ilimdir I said "What is Erzurum?" She said "My city"
Dedim gider misin, dedi yolumdur I said "Do you go?" She said "It is my way"
Dedim Emrah nendir, dedi kulumdur I said "Who is Emrah?" She said "My slave"
Dedim satar mısın, dedi ki yoh yoh. I said "Would you sell him?" She said "No,no!"

Erzurumlu Emrah (1775-1854)

El Çek Tabib El Çek Yaram Üstünden Get your hand away from my wound, doctor!

El çek tabib el çek yaram üstünden  Get your hand away from my wound, doctor!
Sen benim derdime deva bilmezsin  You don´t know the cure of my pain
Sen nasıl tabibsin yoktur ilacın What kind of a doctor are you? You don´t have medicine.
Yaram yürektedir sarabilmezsin My wound is on my heart, you can´t bandage it.

Sana derim sana ey kalbi hayın I say you, o false-hearted!
Kimseler çekmesin feleğin yayın  May nobody pull the string of fate´s bow
Yıkıp harab ettin gönül sarayın You demolished and destroyed the palace of heart.
Alıp bir taşını koyabilmezsin You can´t take and put back even one stone of it.

Emrah´ım dinledin benim sözlerim I am Emrah, you listened to my words.
Muhabettin can evimde gizlerim I hide your love in home of my heart
Ne duruyon ağlasana gözlerim Why do you stop, cry my eyes.
Bir daha yarini görebilmezsin You can´t see the beloved one more time.

Erzurumlu Emrah (1775-1854)

What is Turkish slang actually based on? Street talk of Istanbul?

The "slang dictionary" I mentioned seems to be written by teenagers. Even many standard language words are considered slang if they have to do with certain body parts. The author does not know what slang is  -  but there are some pearls there.

Every region has its slang exspressions. But many people from different regions of Turkey live in İstanbul. So Istanbul street talk can be very enlightining.

It is not easy to master Turkish slang. It is so vast even I can easily lose myself in it

Melancholy again. Very famous poem and song.

Haydi Abbas Come on Abbas

Haydi Abbas, vakit tamam; Come on Abbas, it is the time.
Akşam diyordun işte oldu akşam.
You were saying “wait untill the evening” It is now..
Kur bakalım çilingir soframizı;
Set our rakı table
Dinsin artık bu kalp ağrısı.
And let this heartache cease now.
Şu ağacın gölgesinde olsun;
Set it under the shadow of this tree.
Tam kenarında havuzun.
Exactly beside the pool.
Aya haber sal çıksın bu gece;
Send a message to the moon, let it appear tonight.
Görünsün şöyle gönlümce.
Let it appear as I wish
Bas kırbacı sihirli seccadeye,
Whip the flying carpet
Göster hükmettiğini mesafeye
Show how you rule the distance
Ve zamana.
And time
Katıp tozu dumana,
Raising a cloud of dust
Var git,
Go
Böyle ferman etti Cahit,
Thus commanded Cahit
Al getir ilk sevgiliyi
Beşiktaş´tan; Take and bring first beloved from Beşiktaş
Yaşamak istiyorum gençliğimi baştan.
I want to live my youth since the beginning.
