From Kafka, I think. It´s for a friend who wants to know. Severa suggestions are welcome.

Yeraltı (Underground)

Özet & detaylar

Karanlık filmlerin yönetmeni Zeki Demirkubuz, ünlü Rus yazar Dostoyevsky´nin Yeraltından Notlar adlı klasik yapıtından esinlenerek kurguladığı son filmini Ankara´da çekti. Başrolde televizyon komedilerinden sonra sinemada dramatik karakterlere geçiş yapan Engin Günaydın´ı seyrettiğimiz film bu sezonun öne çıkan yerli yapımları arasında yer alıyor.
Nefret ettiği eski arkadaşlarının akşam yemeğine kendisini zorla davet ettiren Muharrem´in, bu yemek ile birlikte başlayan didişmeleri, ego gösterileri sonucu eski defterlerin açılması ile utanç dolu hesaplaşmalarla karşı karşıya kalmasını konu alan Yeraltı, bireyin varoluşsal sorunlarını irdeleyen bir film. (Beyazperde sitesinden alıntı )

Summary & details

The director of dark movies Zeki Demirkubuz, shot his last movie which was edited  inspirired by famous Russian author Dostoyevski´s "Notes From Underground" in Ankara. The movie in which we watch Engin Günaydın ( who now plays dramatic characters after the comedies in TV)  as the leading character, takes its place beside the local productions which come forward this season.

Yeraltı is a movie which research the ontological problems of individual; it tells the Muharrems´s ( who made himself invited to a lunch forcing his friends who he hates) confrontation with the shameful old accounts after the opening of old books because of ego shows, bickerings which had started with this dinner. I change my mind every day but there is one song that stays: Beddua of Arif Susam. Very touching words about calamitous jealousy. Many singers have this song in their repertoire but I listen to Gürkan only. His voice is sensitive and dramatic at the same time.

This video is worth watching also. The man is burning. His white shirt gives me agony.

It is too much arabesque for my taste. But it is still good.

AĞLA SEVDAM CRY MY LOVE

ağla sevdam, ağla Cry my love, cry
ağla, zorba bu dünya Cry, this world is cruel.
ağla, susma ağla Cry, don´t be quiet
ağla, ağla Cry, cry

kördüğüm çember dört duvar These four walls are a gordion knot like circle
can evinde bıkar, can uçar Soul sickens in its home and it flies
boş kalır o hanlar, saraylar Those ins and palaces remain empty.

beni sen al You take me.
yeminim var I have an oath
kül oldum, söndüm I have become ash, I have died down
ateşine sar Wrap me to your fire
sar, al beni sana sar Wrap me, take me and wrap me to you
sar, sar Wrap me, wrap me.
bana sensin yar You are my beloved.

habersiz kuşlar geçer Birds fly unaware
geceler zehir zıkkım Nights are like poison
gözlerimi sel basmış It flooded my eyes
yağmurlar ardındayım I am behind the rains
aşığım, ben sana çok aşığım I am in love, I love you a lot
yola çık, yollardayım Hit the road, I am in the roads.

Why is "I don´t understand" translated as "anlamadım" and not "anlamıyorum"? I thought "anlamadım" would be the past tense?

Please explain, because this phrase is the first thing I should learn as a beginner.

"I don´t understand" means "Anlamıyorum". But we generally prefer to say "I didn´t understand" Anlamadım.

I watch the very interestinf TV serial about Sultan Suleiman. I have heard people calling him something like "imkarim". At the subtitles it says "your excellency". I looked it up in the dictionary but I didn´t find the correct word. Could anyone spell it well for me?

Thanks

Birlikteyken beni daha mutlu, daha komik ve daha iyi yapıyorsun.

More detailed explanation:

You see the predicate is yapıyor-sun. It has this  personal ending "-sun" for the second person singular. So it means it is "you" who does the action. So you is the subject. Now lets find the object. It is ben-i. It is definite object because it ends with -i. So object is me. Now birlikteyken means "when together" There is no reference to any person. But I know that subject is you and object is me. So you + me = we. Now I know that only reasonable explanation is "birlikteyken" adresses "we".

ok to make it clear Birlikte-y-ken means when we are together? i can´t see anything referring to "we / us".... so how could i say when they are together?

Good point. I know it with my exprience of speaking Turkish all my life If you want to say when they are together:

1)onlar birlikteyken

2)onlar birliktelerken

3)birliktelerken

You can say any one of these.
