Merhaba.

I need to translate this piece of text, sort of technical:

"He announced that by the year 2000, the machine will have a 30% chance for successful imitating human intelligence for 5 minutes in front of an average person."

My try:

"2000 yılına kadar, makinenin ortalama bir kişiye karşı beş dakikadır insan istihbaratını başarılı taklit etmesi için %30 şans olduğunu belirtti."

I´m not sure about expressing the ...% chance in Turkish, so all corrections will be dearly welcome

Makinaların 2000 yılında ortalama bir insan önünde insan zekasını beş dakika boyunca başarılı bir şekilde taklit etme olasılığının yüzde otuz olacağı duyuruldu.

People laugh because I am different, I laugh because they are all the same.

İnsanlar farklı olduğum için gülüyor, ben de onlar hep aynı oldukları için gülüyorum.

" gerçekten de güldürmüyor bende polonyalılar hitlerin elinde katledildiğinde ağlamamaıştım zaten geçmişini unutmamışsın güzel fakat o karikatüre ettiğin milletleri kimlerin o hale getirdiğini de bizahmet çiziver o zaman nobel edebiyat ödülü bile alırsın"

I dont fully understand what she tries to say but here is my translation:

It really doesnt make you laugh. I didnt cry too when Polonians were slaughtered in the hands of Hitler. It is good that you havent forgotten your past. But please draw who put the nations you caricatured in that situation then you can even get a nobel literature award.

"laftan anlamak" is not about obeying an order. It can be translated as "to listen to reason" as tomac said. I translated it "girl didnt want to listen to him" thinking that girl behaving irrational.

I think that the last sentence:

Uzaktan bakarsın eserine

May also mean: You will look from distance on his/her work.

I agree.

Thread: Telling the difference: passive vs reflexive

Merhaba.

It is a well-known fact that in Turkish many of the reflexive verbs are created the same way as thew passive voice (by adding -il- or -n-) suffix. So, then.. how can you tell the difference if a verb in a sentence is meant to be reflexive or passive? Of course there are some obvious cases, like kitap yazıldı - certainly the book didn´t write itself, so it was written. BUT for example: çocuk yıkanıyor - how can you know if the child is washing themselves (having a bath) or perhaps a parent is washing them?

You should make a guess
