Maybe for lunch you'd like to try a tosti with cheese, tomato and a spiced sausage called sucuk. You can buy these at a 'kumrucu' , which now makes me think that the tosti is probably called 'kumru'.

kumru translates as "dove" :-S

Yes, so I noticed.. that's strange :-S Let me google 'kumrucu şevki'. Well here it is :

pictuuuuuure

I think the kumru refers to the special bread though, because that's what the speciality of the tosti is. I really liked it for a lunch.

hahah class act

Yes, I'm gonna hang them in every room of my appartment too. Those bright blue glass-stone things just appeal to me! And I looove the necklaces where they are set in gold..

I bought nazar for my friends too, and nice purses with turkish carpet-motives on it and nice cards.. I'm gonna write them and give them a nazar-filled purse when I leave.

Kumpir!! That just came to my mind!!

Oh yes! Kumpir is great. You should try it.

As for dessert, you should definately try kunefe. You ll be amazed!

What's that? I've seen places with 'sütlü tatlılar' everywhere, but each time the main-dish was already so much for me, that I couldn't eat more

I will also ask Kadir what we ate somewhere.. I forgot its name, but it's served in the 'pottery' which also goes into the oven. It's with lamb and tomato etc. But I think other ingredients are also possible. it's really goooooood.

My next test is on sept 8th! Insallah it's already written in my diary!

Whahah yeah I think so

Good to see you back Annelyncim..!!

We were at a nargile-cafe each night and grew familiar with one of the waiters and the yenge.. and she apparantly told her friends about us, because when we passed her and her friends, they all said 'maşallah, so sweet!'.. hehe !

I'm becoming superstitious too (is that the right spelling?).. I got a nazar when I was born from a Greek uncle.. I always put it on when I go into the car or plane.. and now I won't take it off till I'm safe in türkiye again and I think i'll wear it there too

As long as you have lots of comfort stops I'm sure you'll be alright! Ohh don't forget your map!!!

Haha yes I'd take that advice if I were you

But I was just picturin ur journey.. isn't it smarter to take the ferry to Holland (this is not meant selfish as I'll be waiting for you in Çeşme and not in Hoek van Holland ), then cross Holland, Germany, Austria and then enter Italy from the Slovenian side? There should be boat trips too from there to Brindisi I guess, and other wise you can take the coast-route. Then you don't have to cross those enormous mountains (there wíll be mountains obviously), plus.. the roads in Holland and Germany are really good and fast.

The huge problem for me as a UK driver in Turkey is just being on the wrong side of the road. I have driven in other European places before and its pretty nerve wracking, but when I drove in turkey, I also drove a car with the controls on the left - off ya...nightmare all of it. I will have to get used to it somehow.

When I go to live in Turkey next year, we have decided to go by car, but we will get a ferry as far as we can in France then drive to Brindisi in Italy and get a ferry to Çeşme/Izmir. It LOOKS pretty easy you can say to yourself. 'Oh, its simple, we will just drive right across France, into Italy, down to Brindisi and get a ferry!' lol. Never mind that France is enormous and you have to cross several mountain ranges before you get to Brindisi! I am scared already!

Anyway....

No way you can go to Çesme and Izmir without visiting me!!!!!

I've seen the adverts for ferries from Brindisi to Çesme and also to Piraeus/Athens. Kadir and I are hoping to take that one, one day.

If I had a car and if I had enough money and time, I'd definitely do that too, it sounds really nice (i knowthat france is enormous, but I don't know if you ever drove there or in Italy? It's a beaaaautiful road!). Plus.. you can take way more luggage!

Anyway, as yo ucan see.. two 'ifs' too many to make this come true for me in a short time

As a non-muslim in Türkiye, would it be weird to use those words?

I decided for myself I will not use them till I'm fluent anyways, but will it still be weird then?
