Öncelikle ailemin ve benim sağlıklı olmasını istiyorum. Liseyi en iyi dereceyle bitirmek istiyorum. Liseden sonra üniversiteye gitmek istiyorum. Saraybosna hukuk fakültesine girmeyi arzuluyorum. It´s actually ev-i-n-de. Because when you add -de suffix, you also add -n buffer consonant if the word ends with a vowel.

I add -i because you add either -e or -i suffix to the word which is affected by the verb.

I see. They are a little complex rules for learners. But it´s not the end of the world Since we use suffixes a lot, we have these rules to write correct vowels.

I´ll try to explain them:

Major Vowel Harmony

This is the easier one. There are eight vowels in Turkish. Four of them are hard (a, ı, o , u) and four of them are soft vowels (e, i, ö, ü ). If the last vowel of a word is hard, then the suffix will start with a hard vowel. Same for soft vowels.

For example:

Let´s add some suffixes to the following words,

market-e ; market-in (soft)

iş-e ; iş-in (soft)

duvar-a ; duvar-ın (hard)

okul-a ; okul-un (hard)

As you see, the last vowel shows which vowel you should start with.

Minor Vowel Harmony

This one´s not that hard. This time we group vowels differently. When you pronounce them, your mouth either becomes flat or round. Flat vowels are a, e, ı, i. And round vowels are o, ö, u, ü. Try it and you´ll see

The simple way to say the rule is that, if the last vowel of a word is flat, the suffix will start with a flat one. But if the last vowel is round, then it could be either flat or round.

For example:

ben-im (flat)

duvar-ın (flat)

ışık-lı (flat)

o-n-un (round)

horoz-a (round)

gül-lü (round)
