Quoting Kasimpasa

Merhaba,

I am hoping that someone can check my translation and either confirm or correct (The translation was taken from Google so not sure).

"Just a polite reminder about our request for a balcony room on the fourth or fifth floor".

"Dördüncü veya beşinci katta bir oda isteğiyle ilgili nazik bir hatırlatma"

Thanks

Yardımınıza minnettarım

It seems a good translation for Google

But this should be better:

"Dördüncü veya beşinci katta yer alan balkonlu bir oda isteğimiz için nazik bir hatırlatma."

Quoting johnjay

hello ... a quick question about the word "istiyen".  I assume it is a conjugate form of "istimek", but what is the verb tense?  Can anyone provide other common examples of this verb tense?

Teşekkürler!

John

Merhaba John!

"İsteyen" is not actually a conjugate. It is an adjective made from the verb "istemek"

You can check the meaning of istemek is any dictionary and the meaning will give you the idea of the usage of "isteyen" (istemek: want, ask, wish, require, request, demand, etc.). It is a common word and used in different conditions.

For example:

Evlenmek isteyen bekar: The single who wants to marry.

Yemek isteyen kedi: The cat that demands food.

There could be many more examples, but I assume you got the point. If not, please say so.

Hi, could you please tell me if my Turkish grammar was correct. I really appreciate your help.

1) Do you write messages every day? – Mesajları her gün yazar mısın?

2) I use a computer to learn a foreign language. – Yabancı dili öğrenmek için bir bilgisayarı kullanırım.

3) She never asks me questions. – O beni hiç soruları sormaz.

4) Doesn’t he read books every week? – Kitapları her hafta okumaz mı?

1) Do you write messages every day? – Mesajları her gün yazar mısın? (Her gün mesaj yazar mısın?) - Your sentence is also correct. But we usually say like this. Your sentence specifies messages that the person sends.

2) I use a computer to learn a foreign language. – Yabancı dili öğrenmek için bir bilgisayarı kullanırım. (Yabancı dil örenmek için bir bilgisayar kullanırım.)

3) She never asks me questions. – O beni hiç soruları sormaz. (O bana hiç soru sormaz.)

4) Doesn’t he read books every week? – Kitapları her hafta okumaz mı? (Her hafta kitap okumaz mı?) Your sentence is also correct. But we usually say like this. Your sentence specifies books he´s reading.

That is true. We barely use it when we send letters. But you try to put it, if possible.

Well, it seems that it is hard to translate because it doesn´t make much sense.

If we check each word alone, it may make any sense to you.

child, old(former), woman, Beyza, mother, same

Sizi Devlet-i Ali Osmani adına tevkif ediyorum Miralay Nazım!

But just yesterday, the day before, you are signing a treaty treacherously, and lecherously with the blood of our soldiers whom gave their life so that we do not give up these lands, and instead you are trying to legitimize it which makes me sick!

Colonel Nazım, I arrest you in the name of Great Ottoman Empire!

-------------------------------------

Bir o kutu kalmıştı elimizde. Yok ki be kızım.

-Boş ver anne boş ver. O değil de gelecek ay ne yapacağız hiç bilmiyorum.

Ya. Gelecek aya kim öle kim kala. Allah bir yol gösterir elbet. Benim bahtsız yavrum.

- Anam. Hadi gideyim ben artık. Daha Mister Steiner´e uğrayacağım oradan hastaneye gideceğim.

Misteri batsın, kan emici sülük.

- Bak bak bak. Selametle anneciğim.

+ There was only that box left. We have no other my daughter.

- Never mind mother, never mind. Anyway, what are we going to do on the next month, I don´t know.

+ There´s no knowing what happens next month. Allah shows a path for sure. My unlucky girl.

- Mother, I should go now. I will see Mister Steiner, then go to hospital.

+ Down with him, blood sucking leech!

- Well well. Godspeed mommy.

------------------------------------------

- Günaydın kızım.

 Günaydın anne. Günaydın babaanne, kahvaltı hazır mı?

- Hazır efendim, hazır. Uşağınız var ya sizin. Hazır olmaz olur mu? Kardeşini de kaldırsaydın bari.

Kendi kalksın vallahi, bana ne?

- Abin nerede?

Gelmedi gece.

- Boyu devrilmeyesi. Kim bilir nerede sabahlamıştır gene. Çorbayı getir. Çabuk ol kızım, aa!

- Good morning daughter.

+ Good morning mother. Good morning grandmother, is breakfast ready?

- Yes, milady, it is ready. You have a butler. Why shoulnd´t be ready? Get your brother up too.

+ Let him wake up by himself, I don´t care.

- Where´s your big brother?

+ He didn´t come at night.

- God damn it. Who knows where he slept again. Bring the soup. Hurry up daugter!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

01:10:42,745 --> 01:10:43,542

Yavaş ulan.

Slow down!

01:10:43,659 --> 01:10:45,066

(Garson) Sabah oldu bre!

(waiter) It´s morning already!

01:10:46,753 --> 01:10:48,417

Üff, yapma ya.

Ohh, man really

995

01:10:50,378 --> 01:10:52,589

Hasibe Hanım başlamıştır beddua etmeye.

Lady Hasibe would start cursing already.

997

01:11:01,409 --> 01:11:03,394

Oo, kaçıyorsun Ali Kemal.

Ohh you´re leaving Ali Kemal.

998

01:11:03,628 --> 01:11:05,925

Hesap ne olacak hesap?

Hesap günü geldi.

What about the bill?

The day has come.

999

01:11:06,534 --> 01:11:08,527

Bizde hesap günü ölünce, biliyorsun Hacı.

You know our day or reckoning is when we die Hacı.

1000

01:11:08,589 --> 01:11:10,159

Hacı deme bana, tövbe tövbe.

Don´t call me Hacı, my god

1001

01:11:10,441 --> 01:11:11,823

Hacimihalis benim adım.

Hacimihalis is my name

1002

01:11:12,252 --> 01:11:13,268

Öl de kurtulayım senden.

Die and I will get rid of you

1003

01:11:13,667 --> 01:11:15,768

O da olur inşallah.

O da olur.

I hope it will be. It will be

1004

01:11:16,691 --> 01:11:19,792

Ağzından yel alsın.

E, aslan gibi oğlansın.

God forbid that.

You are a guy like a lion

1005

01:11:21,066 --> 01:11:23,659

Ali Kemal, sen niye böyle oldun?

Ali Kemal, why did you become like this?

1006

01:11:23,917 --> 01:11:27,042

He? İçi geçmiş berduşlar gibi sabahtan akşama kadar buradasın.

Huh? You´re here day and night like passed out bums.

1007

01:11:27,269 --> 01:11:28,441

Çık, yaşa, sev.

Leave, live, and love

1008

01:11:28,566 --> 01:11:30,503

Sevdim Hacı, sevdim.

I loved Hacı, I loved

1009

01:11:31,706 --> 01:11:33,737

Peki sen hiç sevmemen gereken birini sevdin mi?

Have you ever loved someone that you shouldn´t love?

1010

01:11:33,878 --> 01:11:35,831

Heh, ben sevdadan ne anlarım?

Huh, I know nothing about love

1011

01:11:36,073 --> 01:11:37,316

Gel yumurta pişireyim sana.

Come, I will cook you eggs.

1012

01:11:37,581 --> 01:11:40,131

Demek sen sevdadan anlamazsın ha Hacimiyali Bey?

So you know nothing about love Hacimiyali Bey?

1013

01:11:40,159 --> 01:11:41,721

O manada demedim Marikacığım.

I didn´t mean that way dear Marika.

1014

01:11:42,073 --> 01:11:43,402

Ee, çek elini!

Get your hands off!

1015

01:11:43,902 --> 01:11:46,019

Sevdadan anlamayan adama meze yok.

No side dishes to whom doesn´t know about love

1016

01:11:47,667 --> 01:11:48,870

Ben eve gideyim, borcumu...

I should go home, about my debt...

1017

01:11:48,909 --> 01:11:50,643

Tamam tamam, olunca ödersin.

OK OK, you can pay when you have it.

1018

01:11:50,808 --> 01:11:52,151

Hadi, hadi fige.

Come on, come on fige (Greek: Leave)

1019

01:11:52,376 --> 01:11:53,922

- Sto kalo!

- Hadi uğurlar ola.

- Sto kalo (Greek: Godspeed)

- Have a good trip

1020

01:11:54,049 --> 01:11:55,189

Sto kalo!

Sto kalo (Greek: Godspeed)

1021

01:11:56,027 --> 01:11:57,214

Benim güzel Marika´m.

My beautiful Marika.

1022

01:11:57,261 --> 01:11:57,722

Ne?

What?

1023

01:11:57,769 --> 01:11:58,558

Canım benim!

My dear!

1025

01:12:00,863 --> 01:12:02,198

Hadi yetişmeyecek.

It won´t be on time

1026

01:12:02,394 --> 01:12:04,511

Hadi koşun mezelere.

Yemeklere bakalım.

Run to side dishes. Let´s look at food.

1027

01:12:04,581 --> 01:12:05,925

Sen de iyi sil oraları.

And you wipe them good.

1029

01:12:07,988 --> 01:12:10,425

Sen gerçekten sevdadan anlamıyorsun Hacı.

You don´t really know anything about love Hacı.

1031

01:12:16,792 --> 01:12:17,363

Günaydın.

Good morning

1032

01:12:17,433 --> 01:12:18,385

Günaydın.

Good morning

1033

01:12:20,113 --> 01:12:21,144

Yinon Efendi var mı?

Is Sir Yinon here?

1034

01:12:21,386 --> 01:12:22,527

Haber vereyim.

I´ll let him know

1035

01:12:28,340 --> 01:12:31,316

Oo, Azize Hanım hoş geldiniz.

Günaydın.

Ohh, Lady Azize, welcome

Good morning

1036

01:12:31,707 --> 01:12:34,191

Çok merak ettim sizi, dün bekliyorduk.

I worried about you, we were expecting you yesterday.

1037

01:12:34,277 --> 01:12:35,831

-Biliyorum.

-Buyurun.

- I know

- Have a seat

1038

01:12:37,754 --> 01:12:39,246

Ne içersiniz, kahve içer misiniz?

What would you like to drink? Would you drink coffee?

1039

01:12:39,371 --> 01:12:40,488

Yok, sağ olun.

No, thank you

1040

01:12:40,668 --> 01:12:42,902

Bir suyumuzu olsun içmiyorsunuz, darılıyorum ama.

You don´t even drink our water, I´m taking offence

1041

01:12:43,050 --> 01:12:45,175

İnsanda su içecek hal mi bırakıyorsun Mister Steiner?

You leave me in a state that I can´t even drink water, Mister Steiner

1042

01:12:45,605 --> 01:12:49,222

Aşk olsun. Biz senin iyiliğinden başka ne düşündük şimdiye kadar?

Shame on you. I didn´t think of anything but your welfare

1043

01:12:51,754 --> 01:12:52,410

Neyse ne.

Whatever.

1044

01:12:52,441 --> 01:12:53,543

Bu nedir?

What´s this?

1045

01:12:54,879 --> 01:12:56,785

Kira zamanı, bunları takas ediver.

When renting date comes, exchange them

1046

01:12:58,152 --> 01:12:59,754

Olmadı ama Azize Hanım.

But that´s no good Lady Azize

1047

01:13:00,457 --> 01:13:03,637

Geçen ay bozuk bir keman getirdiniz, ses etmedim.

You brought a broken violin last month and I didn´t say anything

1048

01:13:03,714 --> 01:13:05,800

Söz de verdiniz gelecek ay ödeyeceğim diye.

And you promised to pay for this month

1049

01:13:05,832 --> 01:13:06,886

Yok.

Don´t have it

1050

01:13:07,496 --> 01:13:09,465

Yok, ne yapacaksın, canımı mı alacaksın?

I don´t have it, what are you going to do, hurt me?

1051

01:13:10,715 --> 01:13:12,480

Zorla borç vermişiz gibi.

Like we lend you by force

1052

01:13:13,355 --> 01:13:15,496

Hadi Yinon Efendi hadi, istemiyor musun?

Come on Mister Yinon, don´t you want it?

1053

01:13:17,152 --> 01:13:19,097

Peki, ne yapalım, böyle olacak.

Alright, what can I do, that´s it.

1054

01:13:31,347 --> 01:13:32,738

Pek bir şey yok.

There is nothing much

1055

01:13:34,676 --> 01:13:36,340

Bu geçen ayın faizine anca yeter.

This is only enough for the interest of the last month

1056

01:13:36,605 --> 01:13:37,347

Faizine mi?

Only for the interest?

1057

01:13:37,394 --> 01:13:40,051

E öyle konuşmadık mı?

Kâğıt imzalamadık mı?

Haven´t we talked about it?

Haven´t we signed papers?

1058

01:13:42,160 --> 01:13:43,402

Tamam efendi tamam.

OK, sir, OK

1059

01:13:43,902 --> 01:13:46,910

Her ay aynı tiyatro. Hadi işe yetişeceğim ben.

Every month the same act. Come on, I should go to work

1060

01:13:51,347 --> 01:13:52,558

Azize Hanım.

Lady Azize

1061

01:13:54,480 --> 01:13:56,097

Gelecek ay böyle olursa...

If same happens next month...

1062

01:13:56,644 --> 01:13:57,715

Merak etme.

Don´t you worry.

1063

01:14:00,043 --> 01:14:02,761

Gelecek ay getirecek hiçbir şeyim kalmadı.

I have nothing left to bring you next month

1064

01:14:10,170 --> 01:14:11,561

Bunlar böyleler işte.

They are like that

1065

01:14:12,787 --> 01:14:14,811

Silahı kendi kafalarına dayarlar tetiği bize çektirirler.

They point the gun to their head, and let us pull the trigger.

1067

01:14:18,670 --> 01:14:20,108

Kaç para eder ki şimdi bu?

How much does it cost?

1069

01:14:35,624 --> 01:14:38,022

Geldi baykuş.

The owl has come

1070

01:14:38,171 --> 01:14:40,366

Suya gider su testisini doldurur.

Goes to fountain, fills his pitcher

1071

01:14:40,483 --> 01:14:43,069

Eve gelir ah, gül benzini soldurur.

Returns home, and fades his rose skin.

1072

01:14:43,233 --> 01:14:45,163

Sana da günaydın valide sultan.

Good morning to you mother sultan.

1073

01:14:45,421 --> 01:14:46,577

Leş gibi de kokar.

And smells like corpse

1074

01:14:46,897 --> 01:14:49,889

Ah! Münasebetsiz! Destursuz öptü!

Ah! Naughty! Kissed without permission!

1075

01:14:50,069 --> 01:14:51,374

Gitti gider abdestim!

My wudu has gone!

1076

01:14:51,718 --> 01:14:53,225

Git o elini yüzünü iyice yıka.

Go and wash your hands and face

1077

01:14:53,569 --> 01:14:55,718

Yıldız olacak haspayı da uyandır.

And wake up that minx called Yıldız

1078

01:14:55,835 --> 01:14:57,757

Bu neyin uykusudur böyle?

What is that sleep?

1079

01:14:57,975 --> 01:14:59,014

Güzellik uykusu.

Beauty sleep.

1080

01:14:59,085 --> 01:15:00,522

Güzelliği batsın.

Down with her beauty.

15:24 - 16:38

- Malkoçoğlu, I know that love makes a person weak, makes them do mistakes, but now it is time to correct your mistake. First of all, you will take the firl to your father so that the father calms down and do not go to kadi (judge)

+ My pasha

- That girl is not your slave Bali, there are laws, and decrees. We cannot remain unresponsive to our people´s requests. Return the girl at once. Then talk to her father,  convince him, I don´t know what you´ll need to give him though. But find a way and convince him. Come now Bali Bey, go and find a way.

16:55 - 17:14

- What does Daye say?

+ I wish I understood my sultan. He/she is talking like foreigners.

MAKE WAY! HIS EXCELLENCY, SULTAN SÜLEYMAN!

17:24 - 17:42

- My lion, how are you?

+ I´m fine my sultan. But I can´t find anyone to speak Italian. I can´t see Ibrahim Pasha either.

- Make the best of it. My mother, you look fine Mashaallah.

+ I´m spending good time with my grandchildren

17:55 - 18:31

- And our sultan has arrived. Good.

+ My sultan, what´s in your mind?

- Come.

--------

- My sultan, my mother.

- Welcome Mahidevran, how are you?

- I´m fine my sultan.

+ Where is Hürrem? Tell her to come. We eat all together.

- She´s just arrived. I saw her going to her room.

+ Where she came from? Did she go to Hatice?

- No. I think she visited the Prince.

18:43 - 18:46

- His Excellency Archduke Ferdinand

19:00 - 20:23

- I do not forgive you Frederick. You didn´t mind me, and went to Constantine. And things happened to you cost you a lot as a punishment.

+ If you gave me enough support, my fiancee Castil Princess Isabella might not be dead.

- Yes, I´m very sad about that. But I did my best. I sent my ambassadors. You created trouble. If she didn´t die at the fire, she will be saved like you.

+ I don´t believe this fire.

- It doesn´t matter how it happened. There is no Isabella now. She´s dead. You have to forget her.

+ I will not rest until I took her revenge.

- You must calm down. We will give the answer to Sultan Süleyman as good as we get.

20:50 - 21:56

+ My sultan, welcome.

- Hürrem. What happened? Were you ill?

+ I had a headache.

- Who caused you a headache? Isabella? Why was it necessary to go to hunting lodge? Answer me Hürrem. Why did you go?

+ I just wanted to deal with our sultan´s guest.

- You deal with my children first. I don´t want you to deal with my political works. And never go that place anymore.

22:27 - 23:32

- Welcome

+ I haven´t come that well Naso Efendi

- It seems obvious. What our sultan desires?

+ I couldn´t talk to him. Our pasha has come. He´s telling him to convince her father at any cost. But first he needs to return her. How can I? I can´t. I wouldn´t do it at any cost. Is Armin in her room?

- She´s not here

+ What do you mean she´s not here?

- She went to her father

+ Did Casua come here? Why did you give her?

- Nobody came sir. Armin is a true girl. She went on her own so that you won´t get any harm.

+ Why did you let her go? Why?

24:05 - 24:19

- How did you come? When did you come? Did that thug do anything to you? Did he touch you?

+ No. He is not a thug, father. He is a gentlemen. He didn´t even touch his hand.

Quoting Kasimpasa

Merhaba,

Hopefully someone out there can exploain the difference in these two phrases.

They both appear to translate as "I am happy" but is there a subtle change in their Turkish meaning.

Teşekkür ederim.

Merhaba,

Yes, although they seem similar, they actually have different meanings.

mutlu: happy

neşeli: cheerful, joyful

I hope it helps.

You´re welcome Aruwin

Here is the translation for this one:

10:18 - 10:49

- They said that you were unwell my pasha, I wish you took a rest.

+ They are exaggerations, tell me what happened?

- Well, uhh, Mr. Joshua was going to kadi (judge), I hardly stopped him.

+ What does it mean? I thought that case was closed Matrakçı. Hasn´t Bali Bey delivered his daughter to her father?

- Excuse me my pasha. He doesn´t know what to do, he´s in love.

+ Where is that man?

10:57. - 11:11

+ Inform our Sultan that I´m here. I´d like to discuss an important matter with him.

- Our Sultan is not in his quarters sir, he hasn´t come yet.

+ OK, I´ll wait

11:15 - 11:53

- Where are you?

+ I´m here my Sultan, how may I serve you.

- Go and bring Mustafa here. He´s with Valide Sultan (mother sultan) for a long time.

+ I´m going at once my sultan. But I have a news for you.

- What is it?

+ Hürrem Sultan is back. She was crying in her room.

- Is that so? Why?

+ According to what I´ve heard, she went to that woman. And she was talking about a necklace but I couldn´t get it. She is miserable.

- Let her be worse

+ I´ll go to our Valide Sultan

- Wait, I´m coming with you

11:59 - 12:43

- The strongest of all Sultans.

+ Where is kaftan, aren´t tailors working? Why haven´t you brougt it yet?

- I´m personally working on that to be worthy of you my sultan. Engravings, stones, you should see, with my hands...

+ Tell me when it´s finished.

- It might take a few days

+ It is going to be ready by tomorrow, understand?

- But my sultan..

+ Gülağa, don´t you hear me?

- I do my sultan, I´ll warn tailors now, telling that sleeping is haram, if you´ll excuse me.

12:56 - 13:59

+ Your excellency pasha

- Who are you to not obeying my order?

+ Forgive me my pasha, my intentions was not disrespecting you, you know my eternal obedience to you and our sultan.

- Is that why you dsiregard me?

+ Never, it´s just

- What? Just what?

+ How can I take her in by myself my pasha? Consider yourself in my shoes.

- I´m not you Malkoçoğlu, I´m the grand vizier. You obey my orders without hesitation. Or else

+- My Sultan

* Come Pargalı

- Don´t leave the palace

14:06 - 15:07

+ What is it İbrahim? Does Malkoçoğlu made a mistake?

- Yes, he does my sultan.

+ Then punish him

- No, it´s not something to be punished. You know the Jewish goldsmith Joshoua, he´s fallen in love with her and abduct her. He wants to marry her but Joshua does not approve this marriage. If he doesn´t give her back, he will complain him to kadi (judge). Malkoçoğlu doesn´t care this situation, he´s prepred to anything. It is a situation that doess not befits an Ottoman bey.

+ Are you saying that İbrahim? Did you not give up your ranks and positions for the sake of love before?

- My sultan, I have respect to love but I have to look after a father´s right as well.
